Wild Beasts

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Wild Beasts

Couple boys brought this band up in the Mew thread - wow - if Atony and The Johnsons got over himself/herself - it would be good like this:

It is like the Bunnymen in some bizarre way.

I am absolutely obsessed with Wild Beasts, I have an enthusiasm for them I didnt think it was possible to have in your 40's. If they had a Fan Club I would join it. If they had a Fan Convention I would go to it. If they split up I would crack open and my Soul would weep. I love them.

Limbo, Panto was my album of last year by miles. Beguiling, quirky, rhythmic, romantic, angry, funny, sad...with chiming guitars, undulating bass and swooping melodies. Ok, occasionally they went abit over the top, but on the whole its a great album and a stunning debut. Makes Editors and White Lines sound sort of comical.

Then there was the lyrics. Some say they milk the English eccentricity...but if you ever go to Kendal the locals are all a bit mad. Wild Beasts grew up (musically and literally) in a rural community not a City...they are bound to be abit...well, eccentric. Lyrically I havent heard anything like them for years.

Some people hate the voice, but I think its fantastic. Even if you dont like it Tom (bass player) has a great voice as well and sings lead on a few songs. Benny Little (guitar) is abit early Edge, abit Edwyn Collins.

After getting Limbo, Panto I tracked down all their singles, EP's, b sides, tracks on compliations etc until I had absolutely everything. Every single track was a gem.

Then Two Dancers came out. Its a glass jigsaw, a work of jaw dropping beauty. Gone are the over the top moments of the debut and in comes a complex sound collage of interlocking and delicious beauty. I havent stopped playing since the day I bought it and I am nowhere near getting bored.

I dont care if other people (Dave Smith) hate them, it just makes me love them even more. Not a band to judge on first listen, their harmonies slowly release themselves and worm into your psyche.

As you can tell, Im quite enthusiastic about Wild Beasts!
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Bought the first cd today. The second one isn't out here - but with the internet it is up and being bootlegged already.
Will buy it when released regardless.

I don't know why I like it. I don't really care why. I just do.

We don't care why either.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Wild Beasts are fucking great, one of the few really interesting guitar bands about.

Saw them supporting Sea Power a few years back, thought, they had something then. Limbo Panto is fucking genius, just one of those LP's you can't help but like and I can't stop playing the new one.
