There is a negative tone running through many of the topics of discussion here lately, that being, is Ian up to the task of keeping EATB going, not only in a new direction, but just even performing well enough on any given date. A virtual god dragged down to earth by something that afflicts us all, simply getting old and the body failing us. It's becoming somewhat depressing.

To help us remember their former glory, and relish the champions they once were, here's something to download this weekend so that you can turn up the stereo and enjoy the good old days. I suspect that most, if not all of you true fans have a copy of this in your collection. For those that don't, enjoy.

For me its Friday night, the cigar is ready and the flask is full. It is simply a matter of picking the show and stepping back in time. And tomorrow I do the real thing when I go see another '80s band The Pretenders perform live at an outdoor theater.

IMHO Mac could get it back if he wanted to. Dave Gahan is just a bit younger but he sounds and looks fantastic and puts on a helluva peformance. He's like a lighter skinned, tougher version of Prince. Mac is getting by on talent alone and seems unwilling to put any effort into maintaining or improving his voice, making his live shows more exciting (I'm not suggesting he twirl around with a mic stand but someone please chain him to a guitar) and is getting by crapping out pleasant but fairly bland pop songs. It's a testament to his gifts that he can pull off what he does and keep us hoping for more without even trying but in the end as you get older talent alone isn't going to keep you relevant and talent alone isn't going to produce your best stuff. I'm not looking for Porcupine Mark II and I dont mind if Mac wants to sing in a baritone but put some work into it and make it the best baritone there is. Strap a guitar on stage and rock out a bit and write what makes him happy. Not what he thinks will sell a million albums and not what he thinks the faithful and non-faithful want. Echo & the Bunnymen are the greatest rock band I've ever known and while their groundbreaking days are likely behind them it doesn't mean all their best stuff has to be as well.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

and speaking of megaupload, you know how theres always that advert for the game you can play in secret at work and stuff - and the ad has some old tart with her norks hanging loosely in a snuggly fitting bra (if thats possible), so you think, wey hey heyyyy. Well, my question is - has anyone played it? and does it involve at any stage, soft porn? i had a look once and it was all medieval villages and building houses and stuff, you know, that dorky sort of strategy lets rule the world game, and no sign of any porn, soft or otherwise. just wondered if it was worth my while as i'm notoriousl;y useless at those games and well, theres much easier ways to get to the internet porn and all. just asking.

sorry - forgetting my manners - but thanks for the download. not really a 'true' fan in that sense, if indeed that is how you define someone who collects all these recordings, but have a listen now and again to see if theres a really good version of something. pip pip
