Q. When is a first night not a first night?

Postby wills teardrop explodes » Thu Aug 20, 2009 4:11 pm

A. When its 2 days after the first one.

Liverpool 17, 18, 19 December. As Ive said on the official, I got 2 tickets for the Saturday show as soon as they came out... if Mac cant sing come the 19th I will be fronting Peasy etc for a full refund. I am really hoping this doesnt turn into a Bunnymen Christmas Panto starring Widow McTwanky.

Prove me wrong lads...

Mate I'm not daft. What pisses me off tho is that I stand to possibly not even get a fukn croak out of the guy. I was at the same venue same night last December. He struggled at times then. Heard the Sunday was worse. Seems like cos they wanna cash in on a Liverpool do near Christmas ( oh and ta for the album miss-out lads ) people like me who dutifully got in there quick are gunna get the fukn leftovers of his already shredded tonsils. Ta boys, sorry ye didnt cash in first time round, thanks for takin it out on us lot.

Answer that and stay fashionable Peasy lad

Why buy so many tickets or even bother going if you are that worried what you might get? I think most people know what they'll get. The greatest hits setlist with a sprinkling of tracks off The Fountain.

I'm questioning even going to the OR show here in my backyard. New York was just so amazing maybe I should leave it at that.

Withahip are you coming to the L.A. show?

I feel for Wills Teardrop Explodes, based on the Liverpool OR live recording it seems they didn't get the same vocal effort from Mac that NY and London got and now three nights in a row? That sounds painful for any vocalist.

His voice was good at the OR show. Has there been a relapse?

Based on the OR in Liverpool recording and the All West or whatever festival it sounds like he's doing the spoken word thingy again.

Leonard Nimoy put out some fine work using that technique. Don't put it down.

October 24? Hmmmmm. Would be worth it for the meet up alone. And I know the band digs me cheering them on.

wojo - I have no idea what you are talking about. You are like the spy vs spy cartoons in Mad Magazine - little joke in the margins.

Erm................

The reason you hardly heard anything at last December's gig was simply down the fact you were there alone and The Bunnymen never appeared either..... They never played last December, or do you mean December 2007..............?

Flog your tickets if you're worried about mac's voice, I'm not going because, with the exception of a couple of Fountain tracks, I know the setlist backwards and the actual performance doesn't change from year to year, same old same old.

I would have never gone all the way to Liverpool to watch a Bunnymen gig. But I decided to give this year's tour a miss (nearest venue The Roundhouse) and the last one in 2005 (Shepherds Bush) for that very reason. My last Bunnymen gig at album release time proper was 2003 other than RAH last year. In the unlikely event that I want to hear Rescue, The Cutter, Nothing Lasts Forever, etc "live" I have Live In Liverpool on DVD and CD as well as the Me I'm All Smiles CD to watch/listen to.

On the otherhand and it is never going to happen, if the band said "we'll do something different for this year's tour, it'll surprise those going", then I'd be first in the queue to book a ticket.

Exact same reason I haven't seem them in years, just a different show. I saw them during the tour for 25th anniv/reissues. Mac and the backing band were surprisingly good compared to the WAYGDWYL and the Flowers tour. I figured "it's never going to get any better than this" and that's the memory I wanted to keep. And aside from the OR shows, sounds like I was right.
