The Obligatory Depeche Mode thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

My sentiments exactly! We were so far away from the stage, it could have been anybody up there. A friend who was standing at the front assured me it was them, though.

Setlist sounds pretty much the same as it was in Hamburg.
Am considering going to the show in Bremen in Nov. - just can't get enough...

Thanks for the review.

Whoa! No "Come Back"? That's not cool at all. I specifically want to hear that song and then "It Doesn't Matter"

My last DM show wasn't enjoyable as I really and completely was in the very last row at the Forum in L.A. It could have been a tribute band for all I knew.

they were far, far away at the bowl. for all I know, he coulda been lip syncing, but then there was that raspy singing at the end, so prolly not. I wish I'd been closer to see the mike stand twirling and the strutting across the stage.

During Personal Jesus, the young woman next to me (who said she'd seen DM a dozen times) was singing "reach out, touch Dave."

BF, I hopy your seats are closer than mine were.

Well the tix were $100.00 each as opposed to the 50 dollar each so I'm hoping they're good. Never been to the Honda Center. Not expecting much of the venue.

And they had goddamned well better play Come Back.

For $100 each, they better play Come Back! I wanted Master and Servant, just because, but didn't get it. They played it the night before, apparently.

here's a link to the seating chart at the Honda:

I think it might be fun if they'd play some of their really early stuff. Just for old times' sake. Also, I'd really like to see them in a small venue.

That would be great. Unfortunately, I don't think it'll ever happen.

A girl can always dream  The Cure played the Troubadour in West Hollywood (capacity: 450 to 500) last year. For free. DM could do the same thing.

True story......I once saw The Cure play at my local pub.
There were only about 20 of us young-uns and about 10 old timers there.
Needless to say it was a great night! (And I saw Robert Smith kiss Simon Gallup on the lips.)

The wife kept reminding me she was just feet away from the band at the Palladium during the Some Great Reward tour.

We were close enough to see it was really the band but I would have liked to have been closer. Dave's voice was in great shape for all of the show but maybe the last three songs he became slightly hoarse but still gave it his all and still sounded really good regardless. Martin sounded amazing all night long and was much more animated than in shows past. I think the hightlight of the night for me (besides Come Back) was Gore's version of "Home" just him over piano. It was stunning and again his voice sounded great. Come Back was perfectly done and I loved Fly on the Windscreen, A Question of Time and Walking In My Shoes. Dave truly is one of the great rock frontmen. He gave it his all and now I see how he tears those calve muscles. Andy was Andy and thankfully didn't clap much.

This was a great show and it reminded me of why I love Depeche Mode so much. It was so exciting to see Dave slithering on stage and Martin nervously shuffling to the microphone when his songs came up. I would have liked to have heard Suffer Well, A Pain That I'm Used To, It Doesn't Matter or See You but I enjoyed the setlist regardless.

I think when management said their was no appetite for 50 somethings doing dark music, they forgot to take DM in for consideration. No reason why the Bunnymen can't craft songs just as amazing as DM's recent output.
