Madchester hailed from Manchester (music journos are so clever!) late 80s - early 90s. Dancey, swirly, neo psychedelic the likes of Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets and several other lesser bands. Was also called 'baggy' as every was wearing huge oversized clothing, unfort I am guilty of this fashion crime and had a awesome bowl cut to boot.

Shoegaze (another brilliant term from the music press b/c the bands had so many guitar pedals it looked as if they were always staring at their shoes) was from the same era but originated from Oxford/Thames Valley area. Was a mix of Cocteau Twins like multi-layered guitars and chainsaw JAMC distortion. Ride, Slowdive, Lush, My Bloody Valentine and the like were part of this scene.

Class dismissed!

All crap except three or four stone roses tracks - and gave us oasis - who suck.

I'm in for My Bloddy Valentine, Slowdive and Ride.

I'll put Slowdive's 40 Days up against any other song (save the Killing Moon) any day of the week.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

50's for me - fantastic era. Buddy Holly and er....some other people. Great though.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

I'm a roaring twenties gy myself. Something about the 1820s. Antebellum America and the music and styles.
