MAc: no worries, i'l just say it over and over ahain, calm down, calm down) . then, when theres a bit of a rush on because whoever he has making his tea these days is shouting that its on the table and if he doesn't come and get it he'll have it cold for supper so he reaches for the ian mcculloch big book of resuable lyrics and slams in something about the ocean, the world going round round round and finaslly something about you and me. sorted.

Yeah, but those lyrics (c-c-c-cucumber) were original, weird and somehow worked. The problem I have with a lot of Ian's lyrics post-'87 is they're all the same, just re-arranged and they weren't that good to begin with. It's like he's not even trying or maybe he just has nothing left to say. They say all bands have 4 albums in them before they burn out, maybe that's the case with Ian's lyrical output. Even the much criticized Grey album has more interesting lyrics than anything Ian has done since then.

I'm really liking most of the music I've heard from the fountain so far, but the lyrics are just killing me (mostly on the choruses).

One other thing, did anyone read that guy's post on the official forum where he posted the supposed lyrics for Everlasting? Sounds like he might've been more accurate than people thought.

I vaguely remember but the lyrics to "Pickled Onions" (discovered by Jack) affected me so much I had them tattooed on my arm.

Frozen ocean
My emotion
Pickled Onions
in the potion

Falling prayers
cutting my face
Pickled Onions
Falling in place

Down on My Knees
Down on My Knees
Pickled Onions
Begging you please

Down on My Knees
Down on My Knees
Pickled Onions
carrots and peas

Frozen ocean
catch the motion
Pickled Onions
are my notion

Falling prayers
Falling in place
Pickled Onions
cutting my face

Down on My Knees
Down on My Knees
Pickled Onions
Begging you please

Down on My Knees
Down on My Knees
Pickled Onions
carrots and peas

[Kick-ass Will Sergeant Guitar Bridge]

Frozen ocean
of emotion
Pickled Onions
make the potion

Falling prayers
cutting my face
Pickled Onions
leaving no trace

Down on My Knees
Down on My Knees
Pickled Onions
Begging you please

Down on My Knees
Down on My Knees
Pickled Onions
carrots and peas

Down on My Knees
Down on My Knees
Pickled Onions

Begging you please

Love it
Hate it
Want it
Had it
Need it
Got it
Down down down down

Take it
Took it
Shaped it
Shooked it
Pickled it
Onioned it
Down down down down down down down down down down down down

Do you know who I am?
Do you know what I got?
Did you know who I am?
Cos I know what you got.

Ah, the lyrics of a true genius.

If only Ian had put in the Pickled and Onioned part the lyrics would've been saved.

I find it pretty funny that those Everlasting lyrics that guy posted on the official forum look very, very similar to these lyrics. Maybe he really has the album or maybe he's just making a pretty safe guess, which at this point wouldn't be too hard to do.

love in veins has a bit of space in the production and a deceptively simple chord-riff that implies a certain primitive energy. this as with all recent stuff is chocca-bloc with too much music. or something like that. not usually inmto mac solo much but i really like love in veins - even with the inane lyrics - they seem to work much more than this lot.

I am exactly the opposite. I can't stand Love In Veins. I do, however, find Do You Know Who I Am irritatingly catchy. Off Slideling, it was always Arthur, the Seven Seaish-sounding She Sings (All My Life), Kansas and Stake Your Claim that were more of my cup of tea. Kansas in particular would have sounded nice with better production and a sprinkling of Will's guitar dust if it had been kept back for a Bunnymen album.

yeah i might buy that album one day. i heard 'sliding (sliding sliding sliding) and thought oh-oh-chongo but love in veins i really liked and got the single. praps the buns would be better i fthey just did a basic four piece setup (with mac on guitar, natch) with no overdubs apart from those necessary to get the singing in tune on the album.

The songs from Slideling were incredible live. Especially Love in Veins and especially, especially Playgrounds and City Parks. Even songs from Candleland were punched up and rockin.

Still the routinely fights for title as the greatest live show I ever saw

It sounds more like "I Want To Be There (When You Come)" from Evergreen to me.

Based on the song snippets (and producer) I think this album will definitely be the most pop album the Bunnymen have done, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but then I read this sort of bizarre and sort of depressing post on the official forum from Peter or whoever is using the bunnymen.com account -

"the fact of the matter is (sorry if you don't want to hear this) Echo & The Bunnymen are a product. Like all products they need to sell to make money.
The product must be what the consumer wants. At the current moment the consumer (and WEA yes a major label is involved with this album so stick that in your pipe you synics. Not you Redgumball) wants great pop songs they can listen to via the Chrysler radio.
They don't want dark moody music performed by two guys in there 50s who there parents might have heard of.
When the band (product) have made great sales they will release another record & if that one sells great also then you might get a darker album.
But if the previouse two have sold well why change !
Sorry to say a few thousand hard core fans wanting darker etc music is not enough to keep a product on the shelf.
In the future with downloads etc they might do a more classic style album but not for a few years yet."

Did someone hack into his account? Just weird but that could definitely be seen as selling out! Obvious that Ian has been chasing this for about 20 years or so, but what about all the bands that don't go down that road? I think if that's the perspective the management and band have I think they're pretty misguided.
