aaaah, when i was a research stude my supervisor would sometimes answer a question by saying something like 'students usually find that out by osmosis' which i believe meant either dont bother me with trivialities or sorry pal i haven't a fucking clue what youre on about (but i'm not going to admit it to you am I). He also had the inability to end a conversation so would walk off mid-sentence and carry on talking until he believed he was out of earshot.
