are there any other bands?

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

that sounds as good as the Bunnymen other than the Wild Swans or the Room

I've always been a fan of these two bands and I think their stuff in the early
80's came close to Bunnymen sound...

there's a swedish band called The Mary Onettes
http://www.labrador.se/releases/themaryonettes.php3

which I think is a band that formed just years ago that also came close..

Anything else you can think of other than these 3 groups that I mentioned..

Arcade Fire reminds me a lot of the Bunnymen. Very dramatic music and vocals. Not for everyone but I really like them.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

That sounds about right. I would say the same about the Bunnymen circa Ocean Rain.

Some people compare Interpol to the Bunnymen but I can compare diamonds to zirconia...

I think Wojo should start a band called Interpole.

I thought The Mighty Lemon Drops came close at one time, though slightly more obvious and less mysterious than the Bunnymen.

Careful. I like me some Interpol - but there is a strong anti-Interpol contingent on this board.

The Bunnymen were pretty special. I cannot think of anyone who sounds like them at their high point.

The first two Modern English albums, although not sounding exactly the Bunnymen, are total post-punk masterpieces. Also, Hugh Jones produced After the Snow.

Sorry, this is a very obvious one, but as far as the same caliber, gotta go with Joy Division. Some say there's a little bit of Unknown Pleasures in Crocodiles, and I think in that half assed Mac autobio, the one where he's smoking stogie on the front, he says he was actually threatened by JD b/c he felt they were so good. I think there's a Will quote too about how he felt of all their "contemporaries" only JD really changed the face of music.

The early Banshess stuff def. rates up there, and in Turquoise Days there's mention of Pete admiring Budgie's drumming.

The Chameleons, often overlooked, but a great band of that era.

As for Interpol. loved their first album, and it reminded me more of The Chameleons than Bunnymen. None of their stuff past that album has really clicked with me.
