Echo & The Bunnymen Lyrics link on Official Site

Postby JackT » Mon May 18, 2009 9:53 am

There recently appeared an "official" post by Bunnymen.com in the Clay forum on the official site entitled "Echo & the Bunnymen Lyrics (Lots of lyrics for you to singalong with)".

Because this was an official post, pinned to the top of the forum page highlighted in official blue, I was interested in what this was about.

It turns out to be a link to lyricsdownload.com, which is, as far as I can tell, indistinguishable from any number of random lyrics sites that pop up when you do a web search for lyrics. It seemed to offer nothing noteworthy. My curiosity piqued, I posted the following question:

JackT wrote:New Bunnymen Lyrics Link
Hey, regarding that link to The Bunnymen lyrics that was just posted in the Clay forum: are these "official" lyrics, approved by the band? There are a lot of lyrics to bunnymen songs that have been a mystery over the years, and I was curious if this goes beyond the lyrics that can be found on numerous generic lyrics sites.

There was no response, despite the fact that the admin has posted responses to other threads in the meantime. I think this is a very valid question, don't you?

I even bumped the thread, thinking the admin didn't notice it. Again, the admin came and went, studiously ignoring the question.

Here is my problem: that lyrics site is basically garbage, and, as far as I can tell, the "lyrics" there have no particular provenance. Why would the official site suddenly post a link to this crap like it is some new discovery? People don't know you can find "lyrics" on the internet?

What's more, it doesn't even have lyrics from albums like Siberia, which are available HERE, the only (as far as I know) lyrics resource generated by the most knowledgeable fans in the world.

If I am wrong about that crappy lyrics site and they are "official" lyrics, then so be it, but the complete lack of response suggests otherwise.

So Mr. Brian, are YOU able to provide an educated opinion regarding my original question that went unanswered on the official forum?

I've stopped going to the official site oh so long ago. Was it Frank Coleman who ran the site at one point? That was some good shit. And even Ivan the thief had good ideas and pretty damn good content on there. He used to stream all kinds of cool bootlegs and whatnot.

It's my guess that somehow Peter has rigged it so that when you click into that site, the Bunnymen get some sort of kick back. Just like all of those ebay links he has over there.

The lyrics site is only official in that it helps to line their pockets.

How "official" can the lyrics be when the site refers to the band variously as "Echo The Bunnymen," "Echo amp the Bunnymen," and "Echo & the Bunnymen"???

Sigh. If only we had someone here who streamed all kinds of cool bootlegs and whatnot. It must have been really cool back then.

Gawd, I remember all those weird Flash cartoons Ivan the Terrible used to do. MP3 download of an instrumental version of Supermellow Man as a taster months before Flowers came out. Them were the days.

Even Peter's own site ( was it Echoes Of The Bunnymen? ) was quite good in those days.

Bring back Ivan.

Now those really were the days.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

The chant starts slowly and quietly but grows increasingly stronger...

Ivan...Ivan...Ivan....IVAN....IVAN....IVAN

Hey Frank, since you work at the same AT&T Wireless place where Ivan works, could you tell him we want him back ?

All I know is the site was pretty bad ass back then and I got my Bunnymen star shirt and Avalanche EP with no issues.

Was Peter running things when they had bits of all the Siberia tracks on the site?

I wouldn't see what the big deal would be if the official site got kickbacks from ringtones and such that are at that site. That might be what it is but the link to it doesn't seem to have anything unique like an ID or anything.

What bothers me is the fact that they would rather link to that horrible website that seems to be there to just to make money off ringtones than a site like this run by a Bunnymen fan and supported by Bunnymen fans.

I was told by Peter Allen in early 2008 that he would not link to my site anymore (that's had lyrics on it since 2005) because we dared speak about about Ian's drug use over here once the forum was added in 2007.

Well that's their right but it is very short sighted on their part. And the coke talk was about one month into this forum's creation and that's about it.

Maybe the ringtone money pays for Ian's coke?
