That is the raddest thing I have ever seen.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

saw the movie on friday night in IMAX. it was freakin' awesome... i really have no complaints. great effects, great action movie. lots going on. good story line. and on the big IMAX screen, you can really see how much of Zachary Quinto's eyebrows they had to take off to make him spock.

i highly recommend it!! great movie!! :)

Great movie. Great sci-fi.

They did a nice job of updating and capturing the mannerisms and catch phrases of the original cast without making it seem hokey. Things like Kirk's facial expressions, the way he sat in the chair, McCoy's hysteria, etc, it was all well represented. There were of course the inside jokes and they even inserted some of that goofy humor from time to time. Well done!

Good battle scenes and I loved the way the ships kicked into warp drive. The new (old?) phasers were pretty kick ass too!

One of my favorite thing about the approach of the film is how they "solved" the dilemma of how to integrate the 1960's material into a new film. The answer is just to make it look real.

[EXTREMELY MILD SPOILERS]

In the first sequence there is a shot of an original-series style shuttle craft escaping from a Star Ship, and it just looked awesome. Not out of place at all because it looked so damned real and cool.

The subtle homage to the way the original actors portrayed the characters was excellent. I really loved McCoy. He was almost more McCoy than the original. Chekov was another good example-- instead of doing a real Russian accent, he played up Walter Koenig's accent. [I just found out the new-Chekov actor is Russian!] It was clear they all understood what the jokes were and respected the source material.

When new Kirk did ever-so-subtle Shatnerisms, it was awesome.

I was less happy with how Scott was played. It just seemed a little too wacky, but perhaps if they had developed him a little more there would have been more time to connect with the original character.

[MORE SERIOUS SPOILERS]

I think putting Nimoy in the film was a blunder. It breaks the spell a little, and I hated that they did that. I did not work well, IMO.

I am also a little perturbed that in his first outing, J.J. Abrams decides to destroy Vulcan. That's kind of a big move there, rookie.

I think they put Nimoy in the film in order to tell the audience what was going on in his expositive talking head moments. Otherwise he didn't bother me, except he looks ancient.

Destroying Vulcan was a bold move and a great visual effect. But I really enjoyed how they pulled off resetting the Star Trek timeline so they can do just about anything without upsetting the mythology.

In regards to the aforementioned planet, man, you should hear the bloody murder on a few of the trek pages I frequent (I only freely admit this due to cloak of darkness the net provides). Some people are in serious moral and emotional pain, like they killed a loved one, it's crazy. They drone on and on about it for pages. Like it or not, at least they've set the precedent that things are not going to be the way you expect them.

Man you put on Star Trek II and to this day I cry when Spock dies. Star Trek III I get misty eyed and choked up when they blow up the Enterprise. Even meeting Leonard Nimoy twice and knowing he is safe does nothing to alleviate my anguish.

Blowing up Vulcan? Who cares.

Just got back from seeing it.

Absolutely loved it!
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.
