It was a reference to the idea that Bunnymen would be exposed to a hundred miilion Americans on the Morning Show or whatever it's called for the Liverpool event which is what the official site told us.

Did the Bunnymen even appear on the show?

I'm fucking done talking about them, caring about what they're supposedly fucking working on, their fucking half-assed live shows and special one-time-only motherfucking extrava-fuckin-ganzas, $60 limited-edition piece of shit live dvd/cd sets. They're bullshit. They're done. They're irrelevant. They've stopped fucking caring...a long time ago, so why should any of us still fucking care?

I came to that same conclusion about 2 years ago after yet another "cant be arsed, its the Liverpool Christnas show and everyone is either pissed or a Dave Smith who would drive 100 miles for any old shit we cobble together"

Then they did the "once in a lifetime, never to be repeated Albert Hall Ocean Rain show".

Then they did the "will be repeated quite often Ocean Rain with a full Orchestra" shows (again Dave Smith clocking up the miles).

Then the Big Mac In Pizza Hut doubel header (Dave Smith on the M6. Twice)

Then finally the ultimate pile of steaming turd that was Mac mumbling in the middle of Anfield (by this time even Dave Smith had left the car on the drive).

I cringe as to what is coming next...
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Hey motherfucker, growing up in Central CA we went to Stockton when we got bored. That's how bad things were.

I loved the Ocean Rain gig. It exceeded my expectations, and I was ecstatic throughout the whole affair. As far as I'm concerned, that makes everything else irrelevant, as far as the music is concerned.

Echo & the Bunnymen are a particular kind of band: legendary, influential, limited commercial success, with a small but loyal group of followers of a particular age.

I submit that this kind of band, in particular, must cultivate and maintain a close relationship with its fans.

Fan relationship is where they have dropped the ball, I think. They need a better interface with the world, better communication, and an appearance that lets the fans know that they are in business and are serious. They are not a large enterprise, and the fan base is relatively small, so this should be a modest undertaking. Much smaller bands have done a much better job at this.

It troubles me to write this, but I think their actions show they have little regard for their fans, especially the small, but loyal faction.

That being said, however, I think in their minds they feel they have great regard for their fans. For instance, the b.s. that's fed to us regarding how wonderful the website is and the yearly post on the forum about how much they did for us during that year.

Also, review the last email they sent out. The first post was about following the band on Twitter and getting all these updates and the latest news and on and on. Are they truly deluded? The last blog posting on their myspace page was November 2007. Why will Twitter be any different?

Also, Peter Allen is a failure as a webmaster. He might be a nice guy in person, but as a webmaster he stinks. Who else remembers his forum rules of deleting old messages if they hadn't received a response? Or the rule where you had to have at least one posting, or your profile got deleted? The lastest rules fixate on being nice to one another but he can post the nastiest and meanest comments and there's no one there to censor him.

Despite this the band continues to have him represent them leading me to conclude that they don't really think much of the fans or the internet in general. It's a shame, really.

Perhaps they are making an effort with Twitter (personally I want to call it Twitter shitter as I really hate these new fangled web savvy nerdy things), but the Bunnymen one is confusing by the name tags.

One published this week said that he (Mac or Orville?) was really honoured to sing at the Liverpool Hillsborough match, but the link of the source no longer worked. Another unidentified person said that they "aim to have the album released in September". Is that The Fountain? A further twitter shitter entry said last week that "Ian has gone back into the studio to re-record some vocals". What, for The Fountain?

The Bunnymen twitter feed is as cryptic as Peter's attempts at writing news releases. Surely if all these feed entries regard the Bunnymen then this important information for the fans should be relayed properly.

Ian can't be bothered to get glasses, why would he bother learning Twitter?

If the band is into it, fine. But jumping onto the band wagon with no real drive to follow up - wow, I think I am hitting on something here.

Mac's appearance reminded me of Borat singing in the US.

The thing was, perhaps the "I was really honoured to sing at the Liverpool Hillsborough match" may have been him. Twitter shitter just makes no sense to me, at least when it as incomprehensible as the Bunnymen one.

My impression is twitter is Web 2.0 jumping the shark. I think people will glom onto absolutely any new social networking thing no matter how trivial, in an attempt to be "net savvy." It reminds me of the early days of the WWW when everyone made a web site.

Mac needs to put out some new material to show hes still got it.

Dave will lap it up whatever it is.
