I love that song! Les is using an e-bow on his bass on that one. I always liked their darker more experimental side.

I also agree about The Disease sounding MUCH better live. I remember hearing the live version on the remastered HUH and thinking "what the hell is this??" It almost sounds like a different song, a much better song, IMO. And that goes back to the production of the album. At least partially.

Also, I love the demo of HUH, pretty raw, but also pretty awesome.

Ok friend, no harm no foul  . You must've just hit my soft spot, as I truly love the production on HUH. I even took a copy of it to a studio the last time I recorded and said "I want my drums levels mixed like this!"

Just out of curiosity, what albums do you like as far as production goes?

There has been lots of music that I have enjoyed for which I have marveled at the production. The bunnymen have never been one of those bands for me. Perhaps the producer has been a huge part of the final results, but I love the stuff from the drum machine days and I love HUH and I love Ocean Rain, and they production on those records could not be more different. It's always been about the cutting hypnotic rhythms at every level. If the producer made that happen then yes the production was awesome.

The remastered Heaven Up Here made the entire album amazing as it was the first year I heard it. The drums and bass are so clear.

It's difficult to reply. "Ocean rain" is a wonderful non-album song and as a single, The Killing Moon is the timeless classic.

Maybe he is thinking of Psychocandy?
The title track never made it on the album.

Its not an ebow.Les's bass is run through Will's Electroharmonix Attack Decay pedal.

I bet Scouser knows where Les' bass is at right now.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

That's what I was going to say. I can't believe he said e-bow. Idiot.

Just off the top of my head, maybe my three favorite albums from a production standpoint (although they're also some of my favorite albums)

Porcupine - Bunnymen, the production on this is a little dated as well, but has aged much better from a production standpoint than HUH, IMO. I love the layered, dense sound on most of the songs.

Is This It - The Strokes, I love the sorta lo-fi sound on this album, LOVE it. Their albums have progressively gotten away from this lo-fi sound and have progressively gotten worse, IMO.

Here Come The Warm Jets - Brian Eno - Amazing production, everytime I hear this album I wonder why there aren't any albums today that sound like this in terms of production. Every instrument stands out very distinctly.

I'm a fan of sorta dense, lo-fi stuff from a production standpoint. I think the more hi-fi something is the worse it gets in terms of music, although it really depends on the genre, but for rock I can't stand stuff that's overproduced generally.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, as I'm a drummer and what do we know about gee-tar pedals, but I'm sure Will said in the Crystal Day box set notes regarding Broke My Neck that Les was using his e-bow.

So then it's settled. The greatest song is The Killing Moon (All Night).
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
