Echo And The Bunnymen to blast 'Ocean Rain' album into space

Plus band announce limited-edition version of the album

Echo And The Bunnymen are set to launch a copy of their 1984 album 'Ocean Rain' into space.

NASA astronaut Timothy Kopra is set to take a copy of the classic album, his favourite record, with him when he blasts off to the International Space Station on June 13.

The mission ties in with a box set reissue of the album, set for release on May 30. The set will include a live version of the album recorded in the Liverpool Arena last November, plus a DVD documentary and booklet.

The first 1,000 copies ordered will be signed by frontman Ian McCulloch and guitarist Will Sergeant.

See the band's official website, Bunnymen.com, for more information.

Echo And The Bunnymen will release a new studio album, 'The Fountain', in September.
A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.

If it's his favorite album how come he needed to get a freebie from the Bunnymen? He should have one of the ten variations of Ocean Rain released.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I had a similar question when it was stated that the astronaut contacted the bunnymen to make the arrangements. What arrangements? I don't believe my query drew a response. Probably caught up in making all those arrangements.

Could he take the England United single up along with the W.A.Y.G.T.D.W.Y.L album, put them both in a small ion electric propelled probe, and set it's controls for the heart of the sun?

That could backfire. What if it misses the sun, leaves the solar system, then is discovered by an alien intelligence?

We won't be around to see the repercussions of Alien life coming across that space turd so I say go for it.

I doubt any intelligent alien life form would see any artistic merits to WAYGTDWYL? or Top of the World. Probably think to itself, "not worth invading the planet they call Earth if this is the kind of turd that band tries to pass off as music. Certainly not as good as the first four albums we pinched from that American college kid that we abducted in the Earth year 1985".

I'm also missing a Bronski Beat record.
