What kind of creative set list and new twists on old songs do you think they will come up with?

They should swap set lists with the Flaming Lips. That would be awesome.

I can't believe The Sugarhill Gang is lowering themselves to that.

That's actually my band. I've started a Sugarhill Gang tribute band and we are calling ourselves The Sugarhill Gang (feat. Mr. Brian). So that must be a typo.

Some tricky grammar in there, Jack

Suppose it's different. Royal Albert Hall, Liverpool Echo Arena and Radio City were considered one-offs. Maybe one-offs as being performed in a building. Now you can watch the Bunnymen peform Ocean Rain in its full entirety in a muddy field.

Judging by the general line-up, it'll be refreshing for those mad enough to spend 240 euros going to see newish bands like Klaxons and Bat for Lashes perform at what looks very much like a three-day festival for geriatric musicians or leftovers from the 80s here and now tours.

Reaching deep into their bag of tricks, I see.

Grumpy Jimbo - you at excel at reading between the lines. I see nothing in that link from ITM about Ocean Rain.

I didn't see any mention of an Ocean Rain show in the link. And if it's something from the official site please keep in mind that not only was withahip (and headless horse) banned but his mental condition was cruelly belittled by Peter.

While the Flaming Lips are getting up there in age I wouldn't consider them part of the geriatric crowd just yet. IMO the latter half of their career has been amazing with the only misstep so far being At War With the Mystics. And they still put on a great live show.

Sure, but where are the new big acts? Is this Electric Park thing trying to attract Ireland's finest from care homes around the country or its hoodie wearing yoof? Perhaps they want grandpa, grandma, ma and da plus sprogs to attend. Something for everyone as they say.

Are there any new, big acts?

Only thing that comes to mind is Arcade Fire and that's kinda debatable

"Electric Picnic has always been a festival to tip its hat to history and 2009 is no different. Liverpool?s ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN celebrate the 25th anniversary of their landmark 'Ocean Rain' album with a live performance of that record"
