Tricky @ the Showbox Seattle

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Tricky @ the Showbox Seattle

I haven't seen Tricky play in over a decade. He did not disappoint.

Put on a hell of a show, ending with a cover of "Ace of Spades"
Tricky conducts his backing band throughout the show, with a variety of gestures - much in the same way I've seen Prince and James Brown do.

Long, varied set. Tight backing band.
Martina Topley-Bird is long gone.
Francesca Belmonte filled in well. Hot bod and a great set of pipes.

A few dates left on the North American tour:

Mon 03/30/09 Vancouver, BC Vogue Theatre
Tue 03/31/09 Calgary, AB The Whiskey
Thu 04/02/09 Toronto, ON The Mod Club Theatre
Fri 04/03/09 Montreal, QC La Tulipe
Sun 04/05/09 New York, NY Fillmore New York At Irving Plaza

A couple things about Tricky: He's either noticeably altered on stage, or he's so into his music, he acts as though he's posessed. I think it's the latter. Between songs, he thanked the audience repeatedly, holding his hands together in the manner that a buddhist prays.

You'll notice during the clip of "Ace of Spades", the keyboard player and roadies wave fans up onto the stage to the point where there are maybe 100 fans packed on the stage. Though this didn't happen in Seattle, at least twice during the show, Tricky didn't so much stage dive as he lowered himself off the front of the stage and waded into the crowd, for minutes at a time. Mind you, most of his band look young, but he's 41.

I'm not saying that the Bunnymen need to let the band onstage or Ian needs to wade into the crowd. However, I do think they could go a little more to visibly show their gratitude and thanks to their fans for supporting them all these years. We're paying their mortgages, aren't we?

Oh, it's broke, buddy.
Nearly to the top (then Mac quit).
Not quite as far (then Les quit).

Don't think they've even made a blip since, except for the several "once in a lifetime" OR shows.
