I heard there were two fellas called Will and Ian .. summat, who were doing a fairly passable if static Bunnymen cover set.
Every word is like an unnecessary stain on silence and nothingness.

There's also that guy from San Fran that covered some of the early albums. What I heard was actually pretty cool. I might have to check those albums out.

Just taking a wild guess, I'd imagine across this entire planet, that there's at least a few Bunnymen cover bands. I'd also guess that no one has ever heard of them.

The guitarist from Pavement is the one who was playing w/Stoltz:

I saw them play, I was impressed (they started the set with the Gregorian chants even) except for the drummer. He was a competent drummer, but was kind of playing whatever he wanted, didn't do Pete's parts, which to me is total sacrilege. I have to admit I'm very biased though, as I am drummer myself and Pete has always been one of my idols.

I tried to get a Bunnymen tribute band going myself on a few occasions, could never find the right people though. There's quite a few Joy Division ones around, but I've never been very impressed by them.

I wonder what Will and Mac would look like after a session on the "Ten Years Younger" makeover show? The had an old ho on it who had pickled her face in the sun so much that even surgery didn't seem to do much. At least thats not a problem for Mac-he looks like he only goes out at night.

Wow, that's awesome, didn't know that. It's pretty funny that Stoltz is impersonating Mac's banter between songs.

I like quite a bit of his stuff. The beach boysy 'ever thought of coming back is quite good, as is most of his antique glow album (even if it does sound a bit like it was recorded on the wback of a motorbike)

chez

ps they ought to have a had a peasy to bob on and fix that mic.

Loved that Crocodiles cover. I never saw that before. The drumming could have been a little better.

Pete's drumming style is so important to those songs. Lotsa little fills needed and no ride. And don't bell on the damn ride cymbal. Seriously, Pete's drumming was so anti-cow bell.

Pete's drumming should have caused every other drummer to quit. Nobody comes close. It's embarrassing really.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Awwwww go on...put your pie down and give it a go.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Here here! Very few can touch him. Stephen Morris, Budgie, Reni, possibly a few others, but it's a very short list.

I was listening to the Heaven up Here LP followed by the Porcupine LP and realized just what a contribution Pete made to the Bunny sound along with Les. Even though melody is not the main factor in Porcupine (except "In Bluer Skies" of course) I now know just what gave that record it's edgy and exciting quality-all four of them not only ripped up the rule book, but actually created completely new rules of music-or perhaps proved that there are no rules. It is a bit like a physicist or mathematician altering the fundamental laws of physics and it actually working. They were literally God-like at that stage in their career.
Sometimes this insane album is just what you need to listen to when you realise you are living in an insane world.

Pete's limitations are what make him so amazing. Likewise for Will and Les. Their parts are simple and memorable and the intertwined with one another make the Bunnymen's sounds. The drummer of ABC who toured with Ian, Will and Les said Pete's parts were really simple (The book Never Stop). If the drums parts aren't played the way Pete played them it is the equivalent of playing not only a different bass line in "Coming Down' but in a major key. Those drum lines on the first 4 albums act as borders to guide Mac's vocals, giving them boundaries to work off of. Will should make music a la Glide to once again create the rhythm lines as part of the songs and not an after thought.
