Bunnymen to play 2009 SXSW

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

Two official shows! There could be some unofficial performances too. There are lots of events that don't require wristbands/badges. Some of those do require signing up online, others are by invitation or who you know. The Austinist listed this for Friday:
"The Scottish Arts Council will be at Lambert's with Primal Scream and Glasvegas." Not sure what the deal is to get into this one, probably an online sign up.

I would suggest emailing media.office@scottisharts.org.uk and see if you can wangle a way in to the Primal scream gig..........

major reason why i hate festivals! mountain of cash....too many people...too short of a setlist. not worth it.

(different story if you live in that city, tho) makes it a bit easier.

Normally, I would agree, but the fact that they are here for 4 days with two officially scheduled shows, it just might be worth it this time. I suspect there will be at least one more appearance somewhere in between. There are sxsw parties everyday including the British Music Embassy sponsored shows daily and Saturday is Liverpool. http://sxsw.com/music/parties_and_lounges/
I went to this one last year and it was a sign up online thing - no badge or wristband needed, though it is first come, so if it is full you have to wait outside - one out, one in. Not sure yet how admission will be for it this year.

The Emos set list may be short due to several acts on the bill that night, though they are last - so it could be a full one. They are the only ones listed on Saturday (so far) - could mean a longer set too.

I kinda doubt that Bunnymen will perform at this but maybe some band members will be in attendance and get up to jam? Or at the Glasvegas and Primal Scream one?

There is usually a few live broadcast showcases everyday at the Convention Center - http://sxsw.com/music/shows/sxswlive/ I went to it last year and saw X, and Buzzcocks the year before. The bands get about 20 minutes. These are official sxsw so require badges/wristbands, but we got in with wristbands by getting there early. I think there is a good chance Bunnymen could do this.

There are many non-official sxsw shows too. In 2006, Bunnymen played the VH1/Blender party. I found out about that one from this site:
http://showlistaustin.com/
Scroll down to week of March 16-22. Nothing there yet for our boys, but I will keep monitoring it.

That's quite normal for the headliner in Austin. It is gonna make it hard to get to work the next day. When they did the VH1/Blender party, the Bunnymen went on after 1:00 AM. I wasn't that tired at work the next day though because I was so happy. I'm hoping for the same effect this time.

Stubb's BBQ?
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

It is the same Stubb's as the sauce. There are 3 parts to Stubbs: a restaurant with BBQ, an inside bar with small stage and an outside venue area with a larger stage - where the SPIN show will be.

Have the bunnymen become a way for people to become friends? I mean, DM has a new song out that has me still saying I wish I were them! while Mac is playing a pizza joint.
