Tonight:Franz Ferdinand...........3rd album blues......

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Tonight:Franz Ferdinand...........3rd album blues......

History is littered with bands bunking up their third album.Album one:record much played live set, album two:record songs left off one and some sparky new ones, album three.............errr what do we do next?
Tonight:Franz Ferdinand is the sound of a band losing and finding their way at the same time and it doesnt make for a happy ride.Single Ulysses is probably the closest they get to recreating the tightly knit duel guitar tracks of old but by christ what follows after that veers from the sublime to the unlistenable.Where the future lies is in tracks like Lucid Dreams which marry scratchy guitars with swathes of moog-like keyboards.Brilliant stuff reminiscent of Adam & the Ants' Dirk wears white sox.But this is one song. The next strongest No You Girls is a mash-up of M's Pop Music and Bowie's All you pretty things. And after that a couple of half decent attempts but the rest you wouldnt wave the proverbial shitty stick at they are that poor , Kapranos's voice struggling to find anything like the notes.Four years in waiting and not a good attempt.

Has the muse deserted them?Well no because the remix cd is ten times what the real album is and shows with a bit more nerve what could have been achieved. They should never have sacked Girls Aloud's producer!

I never did like them.
And you know that I'll pick up
Every time you call
Just to thank you one more time

Two decent singles...not impressed by the rest.

They are the archetypal Dave Smith band though.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

I want to like them, meaning the first 10 to 20 seconds of anytune I hear by them I am like GREAT! and then it quickly becomes monotonous. There are enough bands from the 80s that did it better.

isn't the current fashion for it being the second album? Amongst the pop tarts of the world that is at any rate- the thinking to my mind being that since you can get an hour and a half on a CD and time equalling money everything that can be squeezed on goes in, the order being 1. lead single, 2. second single, 3. 3rd single. 4. the lets milk it and go for a fourth single 5/6/7/8 the b sides 9 - 25 all the stuff that would in the old days have been kept for the occasion that the starlet dies young or if the worst comes to the worst, compilations (previously uinreleased) or should they ever attain such heady heights of cultdom - the box set. Naturally stuffing it all out at one go means that production costs are kept to a minumum.

I'm a big fan of Samuel Beckett myself
