White Lies vs. Crystal Stilts

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

White Lies vs. Crystal Stilts

Postby redgumball » Mon Feb 16, 2009 3:12 pm

Why does everyone explain the White Lies as related to Echo & The Bunnymen? They suck! They sound more like Duran Duran to me. Mostly pop, aligned with the likes of Franz Ferdinand and jack-offs like The Editors. too much tit suckling and less punk. I don't hear a shred of My Dark Things in these lads. I guess flagging off and comparing yourself to Echo is the taste of the day. Thanks Coldplay for that!

Now the Crystal Stilts, they sound more like Joy Division and align better with Echo if you ask me. The White Lies can be right up there as a more faggy New Order, if you ask me.

Have you ever considered anger management classes?
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Any band with a 'big' sound get compared to the Bunnymen in the UK even though 9 out of ten times they sound nothing like them.Nothing wrong with Duranies.Meanwhile the 'stilts sound total shite.

even my local music rag (http://nightshift.oxfordmusic.net/) is fond of namedropping the buns everytime some band could be described as 'dark' or 'swirling'.. Latest one is 'the winchell riots' who until recently (well two of them anyway) were called 'fell city girl', both you may well find on myspace if you can be bothered.

On another note, and this may seem obvious, is there a seething resentment by mr mcculloch that even his microcelebrity/rock star status seems to be dependent on dragging round that funny looking bloke who still likes taping weird noises off the telly. And will he still be off at the first chance.

in an 'i know i'll never be famous but i'm so desperate that any connection will do' kind of way i htought I'd share the information that the current mrs cherry claims to have once interviewed simon lebonbon for her student telly station (back in the day, natch) and said he was very nice and invited her for tea. She claims she politely declined saying her boyfriend of the time (as opposed to any other one) was waiting outside.

The only big thing about Duran is Le Nobs, I mean Le Bons Coke habit and man boobs.

Is it a Midlands thing with them Mr Smith or just a weak spot?

They came from 'Birmingham' because thats where the band formed and Le Bon went to Birmingham University. Not really brummies.Anyway I'm from the Black Country.I am the owner of albums one,two and three on musical merit and nobody can say The Chauffeur isnt mega.

For my sins and shame, some of my best mates still love them to this day, so am aware of the tenuos relationship with B'ham, despite the bassists penchant for A.Vile shirts....

Not wishing to sound pendantic, but my mention was of the Midlands, not B'ham alone...I was always under the impression that the Black Country was part of 'The Midlands' Wikipedia suggests this is the case too - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Country.

I am not an authority and Wikipedia is not the law.....So am now wondering if Black Country folk do not consider themselves as being from The Midlands?

Black Country folk barely think of themselves as part of the human race.

For our US posters - the Black Country in the UK is like the Deep South of the US. They even play banjos and definately marry their sisters.

lol.Christ-getting grief from two posters who live in the leafy suburbs of Surrey.Sorry that would be Liverpool and Glasgow where I used to think people didnt know which side of the window to fit the blinds to until I learnt most of the houses were boarded up........

re Black Country- aligned with the West Midlands but historically parts included in Worcestershire and Staffordshire.NOT any part of or even considered close to Birmingham.
