will someone explain to me the part where the Steelers kicked the ball thru the goal......something got called...(did Cards get a penalty?)...so the Steelers got a first down, ??, but then they ended up kicking it again coz they couldn't get thru the goal, and THEN they got the 3 points. WHY didn't they get the 3 points the first time they kicked it thru??? i must have missed something. (i understand a lot of the game....but not that really technical stuff)

When Bruce struggled his way onto the piano I thought of Ian's mountain goat quote.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

When the Steelers kicked the successful field goal one of the Cardinals ran over the holder for the kicker which is a 15 yard penalty (or half the distance to the goal) and automatic first down. So they got a new set of downs to attempt a touchdown, failed and settled for another field goal which counted that time.

right, i figured that part out, but why'd they have to lose the points they already made? so you mean just because the stoopid Cardinals got a penalty, that makes the play completely void then? (even though the Steelers didn't do anything wrong?) i was confused at that point. i always knew if the steelers made a score, and they got a penalty, they lost the points, but i didn't realize if the other team got a penalty it was still void. pfft! no wonder the Cardinals were getting penalties all freakin night....crappy way to make the Steelers not get any points! (or are there times when a penalty won't cause someone to lose a TD?) i should pay attention a little more when i'm at high school football every Friday! (but i am there coz my kids are in band.....not really coz i'm a football fan!)

The Steelers had the 3 points removed but were then given another four downs to put up 7 points instead from very close to the goal line. It was almost a given they would score at least a field goal and it was likely (though it didn't happen) they would score a touchdown instead. So basically it was like okay as long as we don't lose the ball we're guaranteed 3 points and we now have a new set of downs to try for 7 before settling for the 3. The Steelers and any other team would take that 10 out of 10 times

Most penalties wipe out the play in which the penalty occurred. It would be like the play never happened.

American football is pretty easy to follow. I enjoy the skill and game planning/execution it takes to play the game. But I also like to watch for the muscular men in their tight spandex pants.

Larry Fitzgerald made some nice catches. The Cards should have won. And they would have won if the referrees called the game cleanly.

They probably would have won if their defense blitzed once or twice on that final drive. I have yet to see a successful prevent defense.

And I thought Warner's arm was going forward on that last pass.

i dunno, i'm not really that biased, only rooted for Steelers coz i live in PA....but i did think Harrison's 100 yd interception return was AMAZING and wasn't a bad call.....same with the TD catch Holmes made. or are you trying to say the Cardinals didn't make all those penalties that got called?? they sure did have a LOAD of them!

The Cards' defense looked gassed on the last Steelers possession. I understand ESPN is debating whether Warner's arm was going forward.

How did you feel about the Cardinals deferring to the second half? I didn't like it, at least not in the Super Bowl.

Some of the penalties the refs called are referred to as "ticky tack" calls, meaning that the call could go either way and they choose to call the penalty.

I thought that the Steelers player who was punching the Cardinals player while he was laying on the ground should have been expelled from the game but he wasn't. He was also named the defensive player of the year so maybe that's why they let it go.

I like it the zebras let the players play, dirty plays or not.

fraid you lost me on that one! hahaha like i said, i'm not up on all the technical stuff. i fell asleep in the last quarter, until the phone rang....so i missed some, but i thought it was still a good game. i was happy for the cardinals for finally making it to the super bowl, so in a way i wanted them to win, would have been great! ....but at the same time i was also happy that the steelers broke the record and won 6 super bowls.

I agree. I'm glad the Cards gave the Steelers a game. Many analysts were expecting a blowout.

For the record, I like the thin muscular players in their spandex pants, not the fat, blubbery players!
