mmhmm.

I wish the Bunnymen would pull out a good 3-4 covers per set these days - rather than Mac's Rambling Medleys®

I wonder, though - if Mac keeps his snippets of others' songs to 30 seconds or less, does he have to pay performance royalty?

not quite sure of the rules but.. I think here in the UK its the venue that pays as part of their public performance license, so makes no difference if its a couple of seconds or the whole song. Though if it were recorded and released then you might be right.
