Internet bullying case

Prosecuting this bitch doesn't bother me in the least. You have to be pretty sick to participate in the bullying of a teenager you know to be depressed and who used to be your child's friend. And the whole "this sets a bad precedent" argument doesn't work for me as if you just treat people decently you probably won't find yourself in this situation. I doubt this will be used against people who have signed up for myspace with less than full disclosure of personal information provided they don't harrass others.

This Shane Richmond blogger guy is an idiot. He wrote: "Lots of people give fake details when they sign up to online services and lots of people violate the terms of service for sites such as MySpace. Finding Ms Drew guilty in this case would turn those people into criminals and set a very bad precedent."

This wasn't a case of giving false info when signing up for MySpace (something everyone should do regardless). The mother intentionally went after the teenager. She purposely set up a false persona to get revenge on the girl. I'm sorry that all they could prosecute her on is a hacking charge. It should be manslaughter or higher. Also, even though she faces 20 years if found guilty, all she'll get is probation. Very sad.

Sorry. Whilst the woman in question is a moral cretin, any attempt to legislate to make people nicer will result in even greater injustice, this time not by some sad and twisted individual, but on behalf of us all-which in my view is even more serious.
And then you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be legislative creep. For example, supposing you praise a star on a forum and it is misinterpreted. With such a law in place, no doubt you will have state Nazi's beat your door down and interrogate you as a possible stalker.

You may be right in the long run as right now it it is hard to think rationally about the case. She'll probably receive nothing more than probation (if that) but she'll be shunned wherever she goes from here on out so in end she'll get what she deserves.
