Flaming Lips

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Flaming Lips

One of the few bands who've not only managed to stay relevant their whole careers but maybe even getting better with age. This song still gets me.

And I don't care if they appear on the new 90210

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I think they were on the old one as well. Played "Vasoline" at the Peach Pit

That is definitely one of the great music documentaries of all time. That scene you mention in particular is heartbreaking and intense.

You actually feel how chained he is to it. Relaxed about explaining it but only to enjoy the anticipation of shooting up. And then off to useless land.

The Flaming Lips are one of my favorite bands of all time.

I first heard of them in 1985 when I walked into some shitty little club they were playing at to 20 people. As soon as I heard and saw them I was hooked.
I got to meet Wayne a few times too over the years and did an interview for a college paper once for the "Oh My Gawd" album. I still have the cassette of the interview but I never kept the article.

They've been through quite a few changes over the years and constantly reinvent themselves but seem sort of stuck in neutral lately. The Soft Bulletin is definitely on my desert island disk list and the Yoshimi show was one of my top five shows ever.

A college friend of mine was in the Flaming Lips for the blink of an eye. Jon Mooneyham ... had the best pompadour in town back in the day ... it looked like flames when he was dancing.

Anyway, here's a link to a recent blog item on Wayne Coyne and the band:

I saw Flaming Lips and Throwing Muses on the same bill. That is how ancient I am. They record at Tarbox Studios just 50 miles of here. Johnathan Donahue of Mercruy Rev was in the band for a short time.

So two of their last three are classics in your book and you call that stuck in neutral?

You've just been banned from this thread.

I know you just learned to read, spearchucker... but Mr. Brian didn't say the Yoshimi album was one of his top five albums. He said the show was one of his top five shows.
