What was that about then?

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

I think that album shows why double albums are just a bad idea. Most of the songs don't go together, just a jumbled mess. Maybe that's the charm? I dunno, not my cup of tea. There are some good songs on it of course.

Beatles connoisseurs seem to like The White Album. It's not my cup of tea, though.

Also in my defense I was little more than a child when I wrote that.

December 30, 2004. I remember that day well.

Yeah, as I get older I find that I like the Beatle's early stuff probably the best. I think the pure pop and rock stuff is what the Beatles really were/are. Then they tried branching out and being more artistic. The thing is, these guys weren't really that talented as musicians outside of McCartney, IMO. They worked better as a true band focusing on simple songwriting.

I like their later stuff, too, but I think the true essence of the Beatles is their early work.

I do like the early Beatles material but lost interest the more hippie they went. I grew up believing that Lennon was the more experimental of the four and brought weight to the band but I've been reading lately that it was McCartney that was the more experimental of the two.

All I really know is I still hate Yoko.

Helter Skelter, Revolution MCartney's. A Day In The Life, his. Lennon brought the chaos and shook thins up. If you listen to Lennon's slow stuff it rocks but sounds flat - McCartney has a wide pallate of sounds but sounds like Sting.

They needed each other.

The Beatles secret weapon was a man named George Martin.

His contributions to what we know as The Beatles cannot be stressed enough. It was his arrangements and scoring along with their raw talent that set them so far apart from other bands from that era.
Many times, Paul or John would come in with a simple song and just describe other things they wanted to Martin and it was his task to go "oh you want a French horn there and the piano do this here" or he would just score it right in front of them as they hummed what they wanted. From that would come recordings like "Yesterday" or "A Day In The Life". He really redefined what a producer does for a band. Without him I don't think The Beatles would be as revered as they were or are today.

So that's the real reason they quit touring. Not the screaming girls and the wear and tear.

If I had to pick Beatles albums to listen to, it would be Revolver and Rubber Soul. But I'd still rather listen to the Stones' albums of that era.

The Beatles are sooooooo overated.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Am I a lone voice in the wilderness when I say I can't stand the b*st*rds?
And you know that I'll pick up
Every time you call
Just to thank you one more time
