Rip off King of Kings' thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Rip off King of Kings' thread

But he asked a good question "elsewhere".

What bands did you try to get into but just couldn't do it?

Really tried:

The Beatles
Leonard Cohen
Iggy Pop
Radiohead

Kinda tried:

The Editors
Sleater-Kinney
Arctic Monkeys

The Beatles - Ive tried as well, crap.

Leonard Cohen - vastly overated in my opinion. Prefer Scott Walker, at least he had tunes. Cohen was loved by the girls at college who couldnt get a boyfriend.

The Editors - empty

Arctic Monkeys - I wanted to hate them but quite like them now
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Beatles-33% brilliant,33% OK,34% cringeworthy
Cohen-brilliant until he bought a bomtempi.
Editors-good 1st album, even better extra tracks on 1st album.Lead singer jumps on piano's,marries a dj with a hare lip and releases awful 2nd.

Radiohead-1st album-crap.2nd album-one of the best albums ever made.3rd album good.4th album onwards-try b4 you buy.

Current faves- Friendly Fires. As my mate described them, A certain ratio v Alexander O'Neal v Hall and Oates.Addictive stuff.
And Fleet Foxes album is great for all the hippies out there.

Anyone who doesn't think the Beatles were the greatest band ever is a f**ing moron.

Was this thread meant for us to comment on those particular [ahem] artists, or was that an example, and were we meant to compile our own lists?

I assumed it was meant to start fights. If not, never mind the previous post.

Fuck you Jack and you were supposed to compile your own bands. Those were just some of the FEW I tried and were found to be unworthy of my love.

However I do think "A Certain Romance" (the demo version I am in possession of and not the album version) is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard.

I never really tried that hard to like a band.

I really wanted to like Comsat Angels, but I think you had to be there. Kind of pointless trying to get into them now (they sound a bit generic from this vantage point in history.)

On the other hand, I instantly liked the Chameleons even though I got into them very late in the game. Same for Joy Division.

I really really wanted to like Charlie Parker, but if you're already into Miles Davis and John Coltrane, it just sounds like old, poorly recorded bebop.

Comsats were better.

What do you mean you had to be there?

They are not generic now.
