Depeche Mode Remastered

As an avowed Alan supporter I was in denial about Recoil. While the Depeche Mode aura is present and there is no denying Alan Wilder's genius for production, it seems a lot of the Recoil material is lacking in melody.

Bloodline is OK...but I can take or leave the rest.

Withahip - though SOFAD has drums and guitar it doesnt sound "live" or like they jammed the songs. Its still very much electronic - but with a twist.

I think having live drums helped the band flesh out the sound on tour but I'd quite like them to go back to the drum machine now...for selfish, retro reasons.

Front 242 onstage with a live drummer blew my mind. They also brought out a guy to play guitar for a few songs. Very surf rock sounding. Kinda like Pixies meet Front 242. I consider them the only other electronic band that really pushed the boundaries (and were consistently great) along with Depeche Mode and I love me some electronic/industrial music.

I saw Faithless who use a live drummer on stage (as well as a bass player, guitarist etc) and that was pretty good...(in fact I was leaping round like a demented bastard)

At the time, the drum samples definitely sounded a bit more "live" than what was usually associated with electronics music. I would love to know if that was at Wilder and Gahan's bequest (wow, I used bequest! did I use it right?) as they seem to say in one of those remaster vids I posted -

It is not the case now but electronic drums were a big no-no in the late 80s early 90s for a lot of people. Remember the scene in 101 when the DM kids meet the Metallica fans?

True Gore story. The missus was at a lesbian bar with her friends and Gore comes in and hits on the most militant man hater in their group. Apparently he was drunk off his ass (this was in the days when he was having those alcohol induced seizures) and smelled like vomit. When I heard the story I took it the complete opposite way it was told to me. They were all "ugh" and "as if" and I was like that dude is bad ass.
