BRMC - The Effects of 333

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

BRMC - The Effects of 333

Postby Frank The Bunny » Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:05 pm

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club self-released an album of ambient/instrumental tracks on November 1 called "The Effects of 333". No audio samples were available, so I took the plunge. I don't get it.

Read more (and download a bootleg of their show from Toronto's Mod Club recorded on the Baby 81 tour): http://frankiesbrilloblog.blogspot.com/ ... f-333.html

Ambient/trance/instrumental is on my list of stuff to avoid. Just below any "jazz fusion" crap
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

It hurts my ears - almost as much as the lighting at last night's Chris Cornell / Timbaland trainwreck hurt my eyes. [edited: thanks for pointing out my flaws, BF]

I'd post some poetry, but I can barely see through my tears.

And... I'd post samples of the 333 tracks, if I could find the hook...
Just imagine a 56k modem - after dialing, but before "you've got mail".

It's kind of hard to give you a good idea of how bad this stuff is, without your being able to hear even a taste of it. I believe it's within fair use regulations for me to create and distribute 30-second samples of the tracks, since I've already purchased this web-only album (six bucks from http://www.blackrebelmotorcycleclub.com ).

So, you can download track samples here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WSW2S50X

I've gotta say - I hate when good rock bands go all experimental [see Radiohead]. What the fuck are they thinking?

They start to believe their own press about their "genius"

Rushed to their website and bought it, hmm?

I don't think this is a 'new direction' for BRMC. I think it's something they've been noodling with when high (Peter was in Brian Jonestown Massacre), and they just decided to put it out there.

I won't be surprised at all if their next "real" album is another rocker.

Or maybe it is their way of carrying on without Nick Jago.

I hardly think Nick Jago was the driving force behind BRMC. Were that the case, they would've thrown in the towel, called it quits and not toured without him.
