The Peel Sessions

Postby Frank The Bunny » Fri Oct 31, 2008 4:35 pm

So, I was rooting around the web, and on a site called mp3fiesta.com I found a 21-track Bunnymen Peel Sessions compilation.

Some of these tracks have appeared on Crystal Days, and on the 2-disc Evergreen release, but others I hadn't heard before and others I'd only heard on 300th-generation cassette tapes.

The tracklisting, as tagged:

01 I Bagsy Yours
02 Read It In Books
03 Stars Are Stars
04 Villiers Terrace
05 All That Jazz
06 Over The Wall
07 Pictures On My Wall
08 All My Colours Turn To Cloud
09 It s Heaven Up Here
10 That Golden Smile
11 Turquoise Days
12 An Equation
13 No Hands
14 Taking Advantage
15 Seven Seas
16 Silver
17 The Killing Moon
18 My Kingdom
19 Nocturnal Me
20 The Ocean Rain
21 Watch Out Below

Does anybody know where this compilation originated?
I don't recall ever hearing "An Equation" before

I feel like I'm an idiot and everyone of you probably already has this, but in case anyone else is interested, I've uploaded it:

Isn't An Equation something to do with the pre-Porcupine sessions, along with Taking Advantage Of and No Hands? That download, is it good quality? I had a copy of some of it via the Evergreen double release, including that version of All my Colours (I always felt was the best version they had recorded), but I lost the CD at some point a few years back.

I have many of these on cassette. The gem among them is "No Hands." "An Equation" turned into something else (I can't remember what). "Taking Advantage" is The Back of Love. It's good to have all of these in one place. Good find.

Edit: I found a cassette containing many of the tracks with dates listed next to the track names.

May 1980: All That Jazz, Pictures On My Wall, Over The Wall
November 1980: Turquoise Days, All My Colours, Show Of Strength, Heaven Up Here
December 1982: No Hands, An Equation, Back of Love
June 1983: The Killing Moon, Silver, Seven Seas

[edited]I've given it a listen through my surround system now. It's pretty good. It feels like there's some FM compression, but it's really not bad for 25-30 year old tracks that were meant for radio. Again, alot better than the cassettes I've heard

that is awesome. Thank you.

I've been trying to find these for a very long time. The only one I have is the first one on cassette.

I think I have the 99 Peel somewhere - but have never heard the 97 Session... (other than Rescue on the Evergreen 2CD)... anyone have a copy kicking around?

Any interest in my digging up the 99 Peel session?

I still have it on tape that was recorded off the show at the time. Quite honestly, it is not worth trying to get hold of. The instruments were played pretty loud and Mac's voice was dreadful. One of the worst "sessions".

Probably why it never showed up as b-sides or something
