How can I top Black Francis?

I'm finally back in L.A. What a glorious time that was! I had such fun meeting everybody at the Annex and the Pig 'n' Whistle ... Radio City Music Hall is so cool ... even the ladies' lounge! ... and then the show ... truly magical. Mac's voice sounded great (tho I couldn't understand a thing he said between songs) and he was so animated  And Will's guitar work was superb.

The highlights for me were "All My Colours," "The Yo Yo Man," "The Killing Moon," "My Kingdom," "Ocean Rain" and the medley.

Oh, and the air-guitar guy and the guy doing interpretive dancing in the aisle

I missed Will's set at the Beauty Bar ... had to cut out before he got there -- the crowd, the heat and the noise level got to be too overwhelming.

I hope they put out a DVD and CD(s) of these shows. It all went by too quickly!

I can understand what he was saying better by listening to the youtube videos. I couldn't understand him at all while I was there. Maybe the crowd noise was too much.

Was this The Last Great Bunnymen Show? Afterwards, I had a feeling like it was, and that I was very thankful to be there to see it.

Hey there, Jack.

Last concert of its scope and grandeur, probably. If they keep putting
new material out, there will be a show here and there to promote it, but
they most likely won't be like these Ocean Rain shows. Very special indeed.

I too am very glad to have experienced it with such a great bunch of fans.

i don't think they were tense...........it's hard to describe, but it was more like they were being respectful to each other and the band and the venue by not being morons. it was such a posh, much more upscale and absolutely gorgeous venue, that it just made you feel like sitting and taking it all in, while enjoying the best music on earth, in reverence. no one was tense.

at RCMH, on the other hand, the elaborate bit was in the lobby. (and the women's toilets!!!!! ) the auditorium itself, while really nice for an auditorium, wasn't really quite the same as being somewhere like RAH, so once you got inside it kinda felt like an overly nice high school auditorium, much more casual in comparison, and i think that's why there was such a huge difference in the crowd between these two places. the stage was great with the big curtains and such, but it was still laid out just like a normal auditorium. don't get me wrong. i'm not trying to belittle the venue, or the show (which sounded fabulous) i'm just trying to explain the difference i felt, and try to justify why there was such a difference in the crowd's reactions between the 2 shows. it wasn't anything to do with lack of enthusiasm or adoration.

i was discussing this with someone else and they brought up a good point...at RAH the whole floor area was 'standing'. so everyone that definitely preferred to stand were going to be down there, and those of us that chose to sit, were in the seated areas to sit, obviously. we had a choice at RAH. at RCMH we weren't given a choice, so of course everyone that was going to refuse to sit would be scattered all over the venue. that, and the difference in the two buildings architechturally, is what made the difference in the crowd, in my opinion. the music was just as good at both shows. the orchestra was at the perfect level at RCMH, i thought they were a tad too quiet at times at RAH in the beginning, but not enough to ruin it even in the slightest.

to sum up ... they were 2 of the most FABULOUS shows i have ever seen. (they should bring out a cello and violin permanently on tour! ;-) ) and the fact that they were so completely different made it even better! and the best part of it all was having so many of my friends there to share it with! i think that makes a huge difference too. it created an extra atmosphere, on top of the already amazing fact that they were playing the best album with orchestra in amazing venues... that just can't be beat, can it?

:-)

like Frank Coleman said....those who know...........know!

that says it all. some people just don't quite 'get' this band.

I agree but I've been kind of down since the show. Why would I want to see them again after that? To hear a bunch of tracks from The Fountain? I'm not feeling excited about that right now.

maybe that's why i preferred the RAH show, coz i saw that one before RCMH........for me, it's never going to be topped! RCMH was probably the same for anyone who missed RAH, first time seeing it, etc...

but i will never stop (hahaha no pun intended) going to see them. :-)

sometimes i get a REALLY good burger somewhere away from home that i think can't be topped, but that doesn't mean i'm gonna stop eating burgers!

Mr. Brian, maybe it won't be the 'music' per se, but we pick a city to do
it all together again. I think being with our group made it special too.
Yeah, I don't think standing around a half-filled bar to hear songs I don't
know sounds like a lot of fun, but I'll do it if they come to Charlotte again.

yeah. for me it was the best bunnymen show i have ever seen... but then again i am a noob when it comes to bunnymen shows... i've only been to 6 shows total. but when i hear all the fans who HAVE seen the older shows and comment how great the sound was and how amazing the whole experience was just being there... i am so glad i was able to be there and experience it.

i've even been looking online to see if i could somehow make it over to liverpool. but i just don't think i can afford it with the airline costs....

Right but are you gonna rush right out and get one from a fast food place after that? Even an ok one will have you pining for that really good one you had.

I'm not really saying I'll never see them again. It's just going to be a long while and I am in no rush.

Wouldn't it be acceptable if it were a Big MAC?

(you see it's funny because it's the name of a real burger, and it's Ian McCulloch's nickname)

By the way - ever wonder what Ronald McDonald would look like if he were a hot chick?
