i thought Will paid a design company to do his new Glide site, i don't think he did it himself... though he is a computer nerd.

No, he didn't do the opening page himself. http://www.glide-sonic.com/
I don't remember the fella's name who did it. He also did Paul's site for Baltic Fleet.

"You have only signed up for a forum & not a website."

What do you suppose that means?

I don't think that's the problem, so to speak. The lack of vision/understanding in what can be accomplished through the Internet, the desire for complete and utter control over the release of band and personal information, the underestimation of their fan base and general laziness are far more important factors in why their web presence is so lacking.

I wish Will and Ian would come here and read the posts. Maybe they (especially the latter) would figure out that the fans actually do really care.

Edit: the post I responded to has been deleted (?) but I'll leave the post because it's brilliant.

I've been puzzling over this line since I read it yesterday. I think it's in response to this line in RGB's original post: "What sense does signing up for an official EATB website get me..."

Ummm, you're wrong Peter -- we've all signed up for email news and updates via the official forum. But the inconsistency of those mailings are yet another bone of contention.

Peter does seem very concerned with the fact that the Bunnymen site is free for all, while other bands (U2?) charge a fee to join.

Something along the line (no pun intended) of the website would be better if Ian didn't put all their money up his nose. It was more poetically written than this, though.

Regarding the issue of Peter not getting paid to do the website etc., etc; it should be noted that they are not paying Brian either.

Was it this one?

If so you'll notice that I didn't actually say it, I said I was going to say it but then changed my mind.

Au Revior

Postby redgumball » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:38 pm

Prior to Peter, didn't IVAN manage a pretty decent site? Didn't we all roll over from that site to Peter's? Seems to me we're all rolling over from there to here now...A few of you have even rolled on up from Seven Seas, so long ago.

HUHWHAZZAT?

I think Brian's site is wicked. It contains almost all there is to know on the Bunnymen. Imagine if the lad had access to Ian and Will and management, including content and the likes. Usually a record label puts in $$ for PR and Website, I am sure Brian could make a pretty awesome site with a little $$ and some grease.

Yo Brian -- Tell Chris Adams you need some crib notes for some content, and then ring Peter and get those videos from YouTube back. You'd be killin then.

But if Brian was to take money from the band or their record label, then he'd be beholden to them and have to play by their rules. Much like Peter is forced to do. Sometimes being independent is a very good thing.

By the way, Brian, do you need help financing this site? Not that I'm offering any donations....

I don't think Peter had anything to do with the YouTube video thing. I think a lot of them came back anyway. I am pretty sure it was Warner. I wouldn't be able to host the videos anyway because of bandwidth.

As I recall Ivan had a fansite prior to becoming the official website, as did Peter, however, I have no aspiration to be an official site. Yes, being independent does have it's virtues. I can post rumors and news about unofficial releases and discuss any subject. In general Fansites are better than the website run by the label.

I am lucky to have a job where I have access to the internet all day and if I am not working on anything I can do this.

I would love Chris Adams to at least post here. He was on my e-mail list when I started up the forum. We had e-mailed each other at one point, so I had his address. I

I wish I knew a PHP/SQL programmer because I have some great idea's for a new format on the discography that I don't know how to do. I may have to learn it.

As to the cost of doing this. Here is how I defray some of the cost...

When you click through any of my Amazon links I get a small kickback from my Amazon Affiliate account whether it's the item you clicked on from my site or you browse to something else at Amazon. Trust me, it aint much but I get enough to get an Amazon Gift Certificate every now and then. At Christmas I always tell anyone who buys from Amazon to at least enter Amazon thru one of my links.

Other than that, I get paid in love.
