Joy Division Documentary on Virgin Atlantic Airways Flights

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Joy Division Documentary on Virgin Atlantic Airways Flights

Postby Seven Seas » Tue Sep 23, 2008 6:38 am

I flew using VAA roundtrip. Under "Documentaries" in the entertainment forum, I watched one of the best Joy Division documentaries ever...seriously. You should've seen the old footage presented, I've never seen it & I have collected quite a few items on them since they are one of my top 5 favorite bands. I have several vinyls/books/photos, etc.

I'd like to ask though, has anyone seen this released on DVD? It interviewed Barney, Hooky, Pete Shelley, Annik H., Stephen, etc.

If someone knows how I may get a copy of this, please, let me know for my JD library.

Thank you! :)

It wasn't the Grant Gee film was it?

If not, it may have been "Joy Division: Under Review."

It's the Grant Gee one, the Under Review is soooooo bad, no interviews with anyone that related to the band, closest was Tony's ex-wife. The Grant Gee one is on amazon for like £8.

This sounds like the doc I saw at a friend's house last year. He had a screener of it. If it's the Grant Gee doc, it's called "Joy Division" and you can buy it at Amazon for $19.99.

I just thought this documentary had some very interesting photographs, commentaries & visual proportions. Quite impressed with the information presented about Martin Hannett too.

Hey though, we all can't like the same things.

Thanks for everyone, in your thoughts. I'll check out some websites tonight.

Thanks for the links, Grumpy Jimbo. By the way, are you flying over for the NYC gig?

Zabird, P.S. looked great in the documentary. I thought of you & our love of Buzzcocks/Magazine/Buzzkunst...

I have it on my Netflix list to watch again ... friend had a bunch of people over to view it, and some of them were not Joy Division fans (shocking, I know!), so there was quite a bit of chatter at points  I do remember Pete S. being in there, but can't remember exactly what he talked about ...

Just realized that Ian Curtis killed himself on the day that Mount St. Helens erupted out here.
The sky was dark at noon, and ash fell from the sky.

Weird.

He killed himself?
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Isn't it kind of strange (or observant maybe) that people either love or hate Joy Division? Why is such a definitive choice made? Meaning, you MUST have a black or white option?

Sorry, my mind's blowing about this band today...
