Albert Hall setlist and review 16/09/08

Postby pork is mine » Tue Sep 16, 2008 5:48 pm

Hii just got home here goes no support act and 2 sets, with 7 members including mac on the stage.. first set 8.30 sharp to 9.20... rescue still sounds fresh at nearly 30 years old, villiers terrace, stormy weather, bring on the dancing horses with echoing jimmy brown, brown very good, then a new track which seems catchy and featured the lyrics`whatever you need, whatever you want`then all that jazz, then classic back of love, zimbo and a fan was dancing alone in the stalls and told to sit down by security `now theres a surprise`leave him alone` someone shouted, lips like sugar always one of my faves slightly extended with unknown lyrics, nothing lasts forever with i want to play football for the coach, raphael benitz hes thes the coach....added,then they finished with a cutting version of the cutter then an interval for 35 minutes when they `the albert hall`again played arethas respect again!!then at 9.55 sharp the ocean rain set began with orchestra now in there places at the back of the stage, they played the album in running order starting with silver brilliant version crisp sound with the orchestra playing in synch, crystal days, the yo yo man, thorn of crowns all 3 rarely played live, the killing moon with stars was amazing...seven seas also excellent,,my kingdom also was better than expected it really did sound excellent..then they finished wih ocean rain which was ok,but you knew it was the end!!most of the crowd were expecting an encore of `do it clean`mac left the stage at 10.35...`they have to come back on `said a bloke next to me i said `yeahh they will`but after 2 minutes the lights came on and that was that!!!no oncore..but never mind..it was a fab gig my ticket was £35 but i bought the 2 for £39 on ebay..yet again mac only managed a few words and i or anybody else could understand A SINGLE WORD,they had 2 screens in set showing black and white images from the 80`s of the band in candid shots which was very moving and during silver when a pic of `pete defreitas`was displayed there was a sort of hush, ahhh.amongst the crowd... and mac followed the smoking ban, first time i v seen him without a fag!!the crowd average age was mid thirties no youngsters so no `new following`...my fave 3 tracks of the night....never stop, silver,my kingdom..thank you.....

I remember reading in a recent interview that the band considers the performance of "Ocean Rain" to be the so-called encore.

I'm glad you enjoyed the performance.

New York is sounding better already.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

NY is going to kick ass! What's with that with not being able to stand up in the stalls - that would have sucked!

Mac's still got it - no problems there at all. Thorn of Crowns was just amazing - the violins at the back were making the most extreme noises (not the sort of thing you usually get from violins at the Albert Hall). And Ocean Rain made me cry - but then it always does. And you can't get better than that.

One complaint - too bloomin short...

Who knows, maybe since they haven't played here in the states for over 2 years,
they might make the set-list a little longer? Some Bunnymen is better than none.
Can't wait!

I thought someone said he quit smoking.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

all ye nay sayers beleieve the hype! as for encore- how can you follow up that performance of 'the second greatest song ever' dedicated to les and pete, fools!

didn't ocean rain fly by! such such such good fun!!

who was that support band? think they have a good future, the singer was grumpy (left off people are strange despite it being on the setlist) but they were quality! hope to hear more from them- the only band who could support the bunnies!
A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.
