They've gone too far.

Tired of discussing the Bunnymen and all the bands that have been influenced by them? This is the place for you.

You take that back.

You know I love you like my skateboard but I will do no such thing.

That commercial is targeted directly at people like my wife who love that movie and that song and now have children who need school clothes. It's good marketing if you ask me. It's still a shitty cover version.

"This reminds me of how pissed people got when they brought out New Coke" would be as apt a comparison.

It's complicated, I know.

This youtube clip is another reason equated for me to slit my wrists.

Still, shopping at JC Penney, one can get some good deals at right times.

Zabird had actually posted that commercial a while back under the "why are Murricans better advertisers?" thread. She felt the same way as you guys!

Thanks, Jane

Why must they subject us to sad imitations of the originals?

yeah....like....buy 1 pair of jeans, get a 2nd pair for $1. i just did school shopping there!

but the ad SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and furthermore ...BF.......using another band's song in an ad (such as Ramones) is a little different than remaking a classic film for an ad. i personally think it's cool to hear a great song in an ad (if they use the original) but to see shit like this substituted for a classic film like The Breakfast Club is just sacrilege!

That ad is going to get more kids interested in the original and keep the interest in 80s music (the oldies) going.

The 80s is to kids now what the early 60s was to us. Big Chll anyone?

I remember going to see Breakfast club in Westhampton, L.I. when it came out. I was a Freshman in College, so it must have been during a break (Thanksgiving maybe?).

I went with this girl I liked and who also liked me. After the movie she said she thought it was dumb, and that's when I started thinking she might not be my kind of gal.

It was one of the only movies I can remember coming out wanting to know what "that song" was. When I got back up to school I dialed around the radio until I heard them playing the Simple Minds tune.

I think the song has a very unusual melody.

Looking back on the movie now, it is a little corny and teen-angsty, but I still like it. Like the part where the janitor makes Dick pay him 50 bucks. Or when Big Bri describes what they do in physics club.

I always thought Molly Ringwald's gums looked a little unhealthy.

I would agree about bands letting people use their songs for ads except until very recently most of them have no say in the matter. Like The Smiths and Nissan or Labatts Beer. I came a little late for The Breakfast Club and have no feelings about it one way or another.
