Regeneration tour 2009, Bunnymen on list...

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Regeneration tour 2009, Bunnymen on list...

Postby Seven Seas » Sat Aug 23, 2008 9:14 am

The Bunnymen have 22% of the votes so far for touring w/ the Regeneration 2009 Tour!!!

I wonder if they'll do it? Promotion of The Fountain too? That would be a very busy 2009 then. :)

I'd have mixed feelings about something like this.

On one hand it would get them in front of a lot of people who liked them in the 80's who don't follow music much and have no idea that they are even still around. They would likely buy tickets for something like this and maybe pick up the new stuff or get the re-issues or at least "More Songs..."

On the other hand, it dumps them in with many acts that are really just nostalgia acts that haven't done anything for 20 years or were at best one hit wonders or a flash in the pan. The Bunnymen had a pretty good career run for almost 10 years the first time around with a string of hits in the UK and then a strong comeback in 97. Some of these other bands...not so much.

I also see that Rick Astley has 37%. Can you imagine the Bunnymen sharing the stage with Rick Astley? That would be too depressing for words.

If they could pick-and-choose which ones to do based on
the combination of other bands, then maybe it would work,
like the Fixx, OMD, the Furs, etc.

Hi Mr Brian & Epsilon!

I just am laughing now, imagining all of this...to unreal for words. Needless to say, it would be quite "interesting"...

We'll see. (still busting a gut here now)...

Of that list, if I had to pick 5 acts that I would pay good money to see that may fit well together:

Tears For Fears
Echo and The Bunnymen
The Fixx
Psychedelic Furs
Gang of Four

The Replacements I love but they don't fit in well. I also like Howard Jones but he's maybe a bit too pop for my dream ticket. I don't think my lineup has much cross appeal

They should do an Urgh A Music War reunion tour of some of those bands!

Bunnymen
OMD
Gary Numan
Devo
Gang of Four
X
XTC
The Cramps

Mr. Brian, I'm in total agreement. What about The Cult too?

Anyway, if I had a $ for every person who told me that night that Gary Numan should've been on the bill for evening, I'd be a rich woman...

How could they forget the Cocteau Twins & The Church?

I wonder if the band even knows of this tour possibility? I wonder what they even think of the recommendation?

no thanks on the Cult. Now, a Cure and Bunnymen show, that'd be interesting.

Mr. Brian, your "dream team" would be great! I'd definitely pay to see that lineup.

Recently saw Gang of Four at a festival in L.A. G4 cleared the floor of hipsters. Guess they don't like that angular sound  And the few that hung on bolted when the headlining JAMC took the stage and dialed up the feedback to '92 levels

Good one, Zabird. A Cure / Bunnymen show would be fun.
Never got to see JAMC, so would like to do that one day...

oooh! a JAMC and bunnymen gig - maybe have BRMC open. how sweet would that be???

though i have to say those 80s "reunion" tours are usually crap, even though i love the bunnymen and they would get good publicity/press from doing something like that, i wouldn't want them to do that sort of tour. it's just "not their bag, baby".

until the Spiritualized show i saw in London back in Dec, the JAMC show i saw in the 80's was the best show i'd ever been to! i'd love to see them again!

oooh, indeed! That would be splendiferous!

I saw BRMC open for JAMC last year. They were something to behold

I've been to a couple of those '80s nights. Both times to see the Furs, and the other bands were window dressing (ABC and Human League one time, the Alarm and the Fixx the other). Personally, I'd rather just see the Furs by themselves, but I guess they figure you can get a bigger house with three '80s bands instead of one. I hope the Bunnymen never have to resort to that.

yes, the Furs are a great live show. i've seen them a few times over the years - much better to see them in a smaller place.

I saw the Furs a couple of times in the 80's and then Love Spit Love once and then saw the Furs again with the Bunnymen on the Flowers tour and always had a great time. Butler is a great front man. That DVD of them at one of the House of Blues that was filmed and put out from the same time of the Bunnymen tour is great too.

I always thought there were some parallels between those two bands.

-The two albums that both achieved the biggest US chart successes Midnight to Midnight/Grey album are considered one of the least favorite albums among older fans.
-They both formed into other bands that fared poorly and then returned to the original lineup mostly. Love Spit Love/ Electrafixion.
-Both had big hits from the same John Waters movie, Pretty In Pink.
-They both had songs called Flowers. Ok now I'm reaching.
-Ian and Richard share the same love of gardening and have the same blood type, O positive. Alright I made those last two up.
