That is beautiful! Looks like some guys were rounded up off a beach in Fort Erie, Canada.

Why do I care that China has like a gazillion gold medals?

Fuck the olympics.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

The Olympics are supposed to be about world peace, but I just sense a whole lot of heightened nationalism.

It's not supposed to be about world peace. It's supposed to be about athletic competition at the highest levels.

I don't see anything about the Olympics being about World Peace.

According the the Olympic Oath, participation in the games is "for the glory of sport and the honour of our teams."

Also, the IOC is not known for fostering anything but it's own ends. They saw fit to give the games to Hitler in '36, because they didn't want to be "political". It is clear that the games have not materially advanced the cause of "peace", and I don't see how it could reasonably expected to do so.

I doubt withahip was truly referring to world peace. I think he was going on about the fair play, honor, integrity and the whole "we are the world" crap the Olympics and NBC slings our way.

Fuck the Olympics.

Did you look at the link? The IOC needs to stick to the games.

Back to the games - maybe it is getting older and having no chance to do what I see being done now - but this is the first time I have watched the game and been blown away by what they are capable of.

Anyone old enough (I guess I could youtube) to know if the gymnasts are doing what was not even tried fifty years ago? The ability to run jump and flip around in the air two or three times? I am only able to do that when Jack T is nice to me. Not very often.
