'Think I Need It Too' due out on July 14?

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

What I find strange is the webmaster on the official site recently (like a day or two ago) said everything was hunky dory, only for the management to turn round and give the truth, which they seem to have known for some time.

It seems either the webmaster was not informed, which is a pretty disorganised way to run things, or. . .

On the bright side, if the Bunnymen own the masters (which is vary rare in the music business) this means they get 100% of the money from sales. So releasing it themselves with the added high profile of the Albert Hall gig could be a profitable venture.

Let's face it, what advantages are there to being on a major label? -- The only one that carries any weight is promotion. If the Bunnymen could finance their own promotion they could find they earn more money by being completely independent. Maybe it's time they just started their own record label.

They should start a label. Suprised they didn't do it years ago (although wasn't some Electrafixion stuff put out by themselves). They have the base artists for the label: the Bunnymen, Mac's solo stuff and Will's Sgt Fuzz. Find a few more unsigned bands that should really be on a label.

Leads onto naming the label... Porcupine Records. Rabbit Music. The Greatest Band Ever Music. The Greatest Label Releasing the Greatest Album of All Time Inc. Bunny Boilers Recordings. The opportunities are endless.

The 2003 re-release of Avalanche was on Porcupine Records which was a self release

Sad news but I cant see a huge delay in the album being released because its already finished.Unfortunately its looks like back to Cooking Vinyl, that well known grave for bands having to finance their own recordings.Their roster reads like its 1987 all over again.

The Bunnymen's Cooking Vinyl bio is taken straight from Wikipedia. Tells you pretty much all you need to know.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I didn't know that. Well, there is the label name should they release "The Fountain" themselves.

Wasn't the Spacejunk label connected to Sire? There's also that "Phree Records" that Baseball Bill was released with. Was that self-released?

I think it was "Phree" because it was "free" at a concert

Some of the spin on there would put Alastair Campbell to shame.

Are there really NO advantages? Seemed like the band was happy to get back on a major label. One assumes they perceived there to be some non-zero advantage. Presumably, having been on both major and minor labels, they were in a position to know.
