What is the name of the song anyway?

I Think I Need It Too

or

Think I Needed Two

I've seen it both ways in news articles.

I think it is "Think I Need It Too", while the song "Epic" that was previewed in Turkey and Liverpool last year is now "Forgotten Fields".

Darn, here I thought it was a flowing of the creative juices coming up with a stellar song name.

Looks like the new album's not going to be released on WB. According to management:

We are no longer with Korova/Warners.

We re-signed to Korova in January last year.

3 months into recording the album, our MD (Nick Stewart) was made redundant.
That left us without an ally (and our biggest fan) at Warners.

We asked Warners to free us from our contract - and they agreed

We own the rights to our album - and are currently in discussions with other labels about the release - or we may release the album ourselves.

Agreed. They're always more powerful on their own.

Did anyone take Peter up on this a year ago:

Yes this is a strange story, Korova have closed down, BUT DONT PANIC.........

I spoke to Will around two weeks ago & we discussed this matter and he was even more enthusiastic than before "its means we are 100% WEA, and not on a subsidiary label. Its all good news Peter" said Mr Sergeant.

It is a case of the middle man has been removed, Warners could have said "Hey man we dont want this band called Bunnyman's Echo" but they didn't, they are 1000% behind the band.

I will bet anybody $100 by the end of 2008 Echo & The Bunnymen will have had a top ten UK single hit & a top 20 USA album.

Somebody should've taken Peter up on that bet!

I hate to say it, but I kinda doubt the Bunnymen asked out of their contract, I think it's more likely that Warner's simply dropped them. The whole explanation sounds pretty suspect, IMO. Even if Warner's fired their biggest supporter why would that really affect the band? Warner's is a huge label, with a lot of marketing power.

This really sucks, simply because it sounds like it'll be a long time before the album will be out, especially if the Bunnymen are still looking for a new record label. They'll no doubt find a new one, but then there's the whole process of marketing the album, getting it ready for release, etc.

The album has been done for a while, I hope they just release it themselves online, asap.

I know I asked very early on if the band where still signed and got no response

I have suspected for a long time that the band no lober had an invovlment with WB/ WEA or whatever they call themselves....

I can understand why the bunnies would not want to be involved with WB/ WEA when an ally is no loner there -- Record comanies of that szie have only one group of people that they like to make happy and that is the shareholder/accountants .

They were on the re-established Korova -- a website for the label even existed briefly (ISP holding page remains here). I guess after Warners decided to abandon it, that was it. I also think too they were eventually dropped. The fact of the matter is that Warners can probably get out enough from sales worldwide from reissues and greatest hits compilations in the longer-term than a new Bunnymen album that might hover outside the Top 50 in the UK only for a few weeks and then disappear without a trace. As for the "I will bet anybody $100 by the end of 2008 Echo & The Bunnymen will have had a top ten UK single hit & a top 20 USA album. ", I think that got a silent response from most of us at the time. That was way toooo optimistic.

It's confirmed what alot of people thought, but they appear to have a more commercially-orientated album from the few tracks that have been played, it sounds quite promising so a new label might not be impossible. I still say they do a Radiohead though -- release it as a free download first or similar to tie in with the Royal Albert Hall Ocean Rain gig. At least unlike some bands that have gone down that route, Mac and Will can still get their faces in newspapers, on radio and on TV so the PR can almost do it own work. Depends on whether they are looking (or hoping) for a smash hit album and are purely focusing on the business side or want to put it out just for the love of it.

They'll find some label to release the album but I do think the people mentioning the free download are on the right track. Anyone still buying Bunnymen albums these days will still buy the CD when it is available so I don't think a free download will hurt sales and may even drive people to buy some of the old albums. It'll generate as much buzz as possible while being on a small indie label.

I doubt they asked to be let off Warners though. Warners probably looked at them as a charity case and dropped them the moment the Bunnymen's cheerleader was let go. I think major labels pretty much suck but I was hoping they'd sell a few more albums, make a little coin and maybe feel confident enough to try a few new things be it solo or with the band.

Well you gotta admire their resiliency if nothing else.

The "asked" to be released is dubious. Mac once said in an interview when they were on the indie label that he still told people they were on Warner because people like cab drivers never heard of Cooking Vinyl and "Warner" sounds better. I got the feeling that Mac always saw the indie label as a notch down for them and almost embarrassed about it.

I can't imagine that CD sales at what the Bunnymen are selling at is making anyone money. With that big time producer they have, some other large label may take a shot at it anyway but if not, a self release free download may be the ticket. Either way they should have it for sale at the Albert Hall and Radio City gigs or a free single or something to promote it.
