Celebs/ artist guilty pleasures

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Bad Company, I was remembering how much I loved them the other night.
Paul Rodgers had such a cool voice.
Johnny Rivers
The Rascals
50's doo wop
early Joe Cocker
lots more.

I had Steely Dan's Aja when it first came out. I used to love Elton John once upon a time. Had Supertramp's big album, loved all the classic rock stuff like Cream and Traffic etc and did like Earth Wind and Fire in that mix too.

New wave or that era:
Joe Jackson
A Flock of Seagulls
Tears for Fears
The Prentenders
Blondie

I recently purchased (for $5.99 each):

Jethro Tull, Extended Versions -- 12" versions of Aqualung and Locomotive Breath
George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Best of -- Live versions of Bad to the Bone and I Drink Alone
Funk Classics -- including Super Freak and more importantly, Play That Funky Music White Boy.

I also have Steely Dan's The Royal Scam on cd. The whole album has held up well over the years. Kid Charlemagne. Classic.

Reelin' In The Years always reminds me of The Swan in Wood Street, it would be on the jukebox three or four times a night! I spent many happy hours in there as a callow youth, I remember getting pissed on Theakstons Old Peculiar in there and I can't stomach the stuff to this very day!
Happy times.

Anyway more stuff I tend not to shout about liking:

METAL! - Judas Priest, AC/DC, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake etc etc, I love it and I don't care (sort of).

Cafe Del Mar - I love the earlier Cafe Del Mar compilations, where else could you hear The Penguin Cafe Orchestra side by side with Underworld! Genius.

Soft Cell (still), ABC, Human League (before Phil Oakey got his fringe cut off).
And you know that I'll pick up

So as I enter my dotage I have a sort of nostalgic affection for them, even though that blokes voice still sets my teeth on edge.

In the eighties I quite liked haircut 100, though never quite got into the woolly jummie tied around the neck look. I even bought some compilation a while ago because it had favourite shirts, or that other one, on it.

Hey...........no one's mentioned Coldplay

I like Haircut 100 a lot too. In fact when "Love Plus One" or Favourite Shirt" comes on the radio (which isn't too often) I'm sorry when the songs have to end.

I still like old Black Sabbath

Delfonics, Smokey

a second vote for the Rascals

Did you see the Haircut 100 reunion on VH1?

I love that A-Ha song "Take on Me" (the video too!) and When in Rome's "The Promise."

I love ABC. It never even occurred to me to feel guilty about it.

Have any of you been around a teenager lately? It is the great thing about being old. I do not feel guilty about anything I listen - despite contributing my ELO post.

Now excuse me while I go mow the lawn in my madras shorts, dress shoes, black socks, belt and baseball cap!

I guess this depends on what you consider a guilty pleasure. Here is a good one for music:

A guilty pleasure is something you would listen to, but sure as hell wouldn't wear a t-shirt in public of.

I don't think I would wear a Journey, Duran Duran or Howard Jones shirt.

I saw Howard Jones in the mid 80's too Jack and it was a great show. He is a wonderful musician actually and a very good songwriter but he got too wrapped up in the gimmicks of the day and no one could see past that. I guess that happens to a lot of the "Guilty pleasure" bands I see on this thread. Except they didn't have a mime in their band.

Hey Bri, there are some "Dream Into Action" t-shirts on e-bay. Shall we each get one and wear them to the show this fall?

my real guilty pleasure is bad (late 80s) hair metal. poison. whitesnake. skid row. all that crap. that's what i was listening to when i was 13 because i was 13 in 1989. that's what was all over MTV at the time.

I haven't worn band t-shirts since high school.

Altered Images, Don't Talk To Me About Love is a great pop song and I used to have a wild crush on Clare Grogan, what a babe!

I've nearly finished Mark Burgess of The Chameleons autobiography ,View from A Hill, and he mentions how badly Altered Images were treated by their record label. They shared a tour and he says the sound engineer was chronic.Every night they sounded awful until Dave Fielding threatened to wrap his guitar around the sound guy's neck. But still Altered Images were mixed terribly. His lasting memory was of Clare crying over an article written about the scar on her face that the label had allowed to be published.Sad stuff indeed.

Anyway........back to Haircut 100.Check out some of Nick Heyward's solo stuff. The song Kites is a classic.I saw him play at the Jug of Ale ,Moseley once in Birmingham as well.Loads of females there.

I define guilty pleasures as those bands I play in the car but only with the windows rolled up fully and when I come to a stop I turn down the volume just in case anyone is near. Bands in the category include

Erasure
ABBA
Pet Shop Boys (Especially the song "Yesterday When I Was Mad")
Eddie Money
ELO
Chicago
The Presidents of the United States of America
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
