Coldplay's new album

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

The new AC/DC will be a Wal-Mart only release.

Out of curiosity, for those so anti-tesco - what are the last twenty or thrity cds you have bought that are on independent labels or straight from the musician or say off of cdbaby.com?

Yeah, I forgot about that. A mate of mine a while back got a New Deal set up for experience in a recording studio that included recording his own demos. Sad really. No more stories to be told by the band when they make it of bottles being thrown by the audience during a set in some really dodgy working mens club. Instead, it'll be stories of how the government threw money when x had got bored of sitting on his fat arse watching Bargain Hunt or that "We had a bit of time to practice between lectures and our Friday nights down the student union bar. We got a few songs together and played to other students in the Halls of Residence and charged them £5 entry each -- what with £20,000 of student debt when we graduated, we had to earn extra money somehow".

Says Martin, "I give myself an A for man- hours, but I'm not going to claim to be as talented as Usher or Beyonce."

"While he lavishes some free time on his obsessions for WWII books and Woody Allen films, he's usually composing pop songs."

"And if I'm fed up with being Mr. Coldplay, I try to pretend I'm Rihanna for a day." he says. "It's a far sexier way to spend 24 hours."

"Martin credits producer Brian Eno who worked with Coldplay heroes U2 and Arcade Fire, respectively, for pushing Coldplay to stretch. Eno enlisted a hypnotist to coax subconcious input."
_____From USA Today, June 12th

My question is did he start pretending to be Rihanna BEFORE the hypnotism or after?

Interestingly, I just heard a music journo on the radio talking about Martin's strop on Radio 4. He said that it may have been staged in a desperate effort for Coldplay to be taken seriously and can be seen as credible artists with the music press. Apparantely, UK music journos see Coldplay as a bunch of public school bedwetters. Not my words.

i'd say you got a result there dave. I mean I ask a simple question and get ignored and you get that. made me laugh anyway. praps one of the office juniors didn't say SIR YES SIR at the end of every sentence.

as for chris, hardly a strop was it? I quite like him as it happens. Not his band much, but i think he's a top bloke, so that can work both ways. and, eh, he sleeps next to gwinny every night (allegedly), more than bonio can say.

well thats just so 1990s isn't it, cds and all that, not to mention irrelevant. thats a bit like one of jacks arguments but less well written. what you mean to say is 'what you mean is...' or something like that.

But if you were watching this week's episode of "She's Got The Look" (TVLand reality show about making a woman aged 35 or older into a model) you could have heard the looped piano intro to that big Coldplay song from years ago (I don't know its name) as the 63-year-old lady was told she didn't make the cut. It was very touching and added just the right poignancy as she started to weep. I'm sure they donated the fee for that clip to one of Gwynnie's favorite charities.

Do you U.K. folks have to suffer through their itunes commercial? If not, be grateful.

I've never bothered with their music because whenever I have had the occasion to hear one of their songs, I've thought, so and so did it better.

And my opinion of Chris Martin is someone who clasps his hands to his bosom and says in wonderment, "me? is this praise all for me?" Yet, everything he/they do is calculated to get the most return. Case in point -- the name dropping. Notice how quickly he moves on the next name to drop when the one he's dropping has runs its course.

Jack? Did I spell bosom right?

Skimming through your post I noticed the word "bosom." Looks right to me! So what's all this about bosoms now?

Ok, downloads. Beyond that I truly have no idea what you're talking about.
Maybe you need it spelled out - if bands being sold on a massive scale are illegitimate then I take it the opposite is true - so fill us in on some great bands not on a major label.
I guess fat cherry was trying to be clever - I think. But to be honest - the British education system would appear to be in dire straits based on fat cherry.
