Evergreen

It seems like it takes at least 10 years to REALLY get a Bunnymen album.

Evergreen IS great, and I appreciate it now more than I ever have. As far as I am concerned, it has passed the test of time, and has entered into the sacred canon of great Bunnymen works.

Or could it just be old-fartiness?

I find it hard to believe you didn't get Porcupine till 1993
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I always thought a lot of the songs on Evergreen were weak and the production was weak and the vocals (in spots) were weak. Other than that, yes, it's a great album.

Really? That album really grew on me a lot over the years. There were times WAY after Porcupine was released that it was like listening to the record for the first time.

The sound on the album seems very tentative and held back. In my opinion, that's weak production. They should have used a third party producer.

I love Evergreen. I'm no audiophile but never felt that the production was that poor.
Jack, you should try Flowers one of these days. I know everybody puts it down but I still love it.

Empire State Halo alone is worth the price of admission. Actually the song is the only one I like. But that doesn't mean I think it is a bad album for others. I just don't really like it. I did ten years ago when I first bought it.

Me as well. Awesome song, but apart from that tune and a few others, the album is pretty weak, IMO. Too bland and generic, it seemed like the Bunnymen were trying to fit in with some of the contemporary Brit bands at the time. Although a lot of fans on the forums seem to think it's their best album since getting back together.

Go from track 8 (Altamont) through to 12 (Forgiven) and it is one of the best Bunnymen albums ever done. Problem was that other the than a few tracks from one to seven (I'll Fly Tonight for example), the rest of the album wasn't that good. Never had a problem with the production (other than the strings and so forth layered onto I Want to Be There). Empire State Halo - perfect, moody, atmospheric Bunnymen song and certainly the best track on the album.

They admitted the production on those albums was slow.

I think there was still some electrafixion in them - good - and the cover is crocodiles with different colours - was there anything in that?

The sad thing, for me, is that I didn't even know about this album until 2003!!! Sounds pretty lame, i know. (its a longggg story) Anyway, I was blown away wit it. Didn't think these guys could still put out something that good. I admit some songs are not as strong, but then there is that last 4 tunes... "Go from track 8 (Altamont) through to 12 (Forgiven)"

An Eternity Turns - Best IMO.
