You gotta read it, if for no other sentence but this one:

But how else is Pete going to get his motorbike up and down the 3 flights of stairs each morning and evening except by riding it?

That... was fucking awesome!

Cinematic.
Like a scene out of Trainspotting (yes, I know it was a book before a movie)

Paul Simpson's a genius. I LOVE his writing. This is going to become a book soon, according to his myspace. There are 2 other extracts from the book on his blog too.

Here they are:

Book Introduction - 2003

Driving Into Mordor - Book Extract 2

for a second i thought you were lou reed...
A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.

"I'm looking for directions to The Druids' Circle, the ring of ancient granite stones and megaliths that Copey's just written about in his recently published cosmic Yellow Pages The Modern Antiquarian. To tell the truth I'm not that arsed about the possible Neolithic origin of the stones, their long forgotten ritual purpose or indeed their planetary alignment to HR1713, Bingo Bongo or the rings of Saturn. I just have an hour to kill before Henry wakes up"[/o]

[quote="Red"]why?

our house

The image of the poets in the breeze
Canadian geese are flying above the trees
A mist is hanging gently on the lake
My house is very beautiful at night

My friend and teacher occupies a spare room
Hes dead, at peace at last the wandering jew
Other friends had put stones on his grave
He was the first great man that I had ever met

Sylvia and I got out our ouija board
To dial a spirit, across the room it soared
We were happy and amazed at what we saw
Blazing stood the proud and regal name delmore

Delmore, I missed all your funny ways
I missed your jokes and the brilliant things you said
My dedalus to your bloom, was such a perfect wit
And to find you in my house makes things perfect

I really got a lucky life
My writing, my motorcycle and my wife
And to top it all off a spirit of pure poetry
Is living in this stone and wood house with me

The image of the poets in the breeze
Canadian geese are flying above the trees
A mist is hanging gently on the lake
Our house is very beautiful at night

Our house is very beautiful at night
Our house is very beautiful at night
Our house is very beautiful at night
A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.
