Old timers?

Right now in currently numerous offices here, there's been an influctuation of people of "age" & "service years" who are going to retire.

If you could retire now b/c you've served your career years (meaning you have many in seniority) or you were of an age to do so, where would you retire to? What's the one country that you plan on retiring to?

I'm very amazed at the number of employees in several departments that are retiring b/c of their years of service. Some of them been there for 25+ years. It just amazes me that they spent that long of time for their career. This one man I know has been employed 42 years here now....wow.... Most of the people that have been over 25 years went straight out of High School and didn't go to college and/or got married/had children later on in life. It would be interesting to see the physical demographics of these offices statistically formulated....hmmmm

Well, back to the question...what place, country, city do you hope to retire to?

most people retire in the same house they have lived in while working their whole life! some go to Florida. (although i have no idea why!!!) me? who knows! if i had the money i'd move to Ireland. along the coast somewhere. in some tiny little town with one pub! (maybe 2, just for a change!) :wink:

and there would have to be a castle off in the distance! :mrgreen:

I'd want to stay right here in California. I'm getting too old to deal with coats and snow removal. We have wheels on our trash cans here. They didn't have those on the trash cans where I spent my first 40 years! They also didn't have IN-N-OUT or Trader Joes.
For those 3 reasons I could never leave, not to mention the mudslides, earthquakes, gangs and wildfires! :wink:

I think it's just because people want to stay near their kids or grandkids, they know the town, all their friends, doctors, church, etc are all there too. It can be scary to just pick up and leave when you've been in one place for 60 years or longer. Lot's of folks worry about if they will be in poverty in their later years and have to watch their pennies all the way to the end so the don't be a burden on others. It just makes sense to keep the paid for house.

Florida is a nice destination because of weather (no snow) and they have huge retirement communities with lot's to do and can socialize with their peers. Moving to another country where they know no one is simply not an option for them. It's not what I hope to do but I can see the appeal for people with not many options.

our trash can that we've owned for nearly 12 years has wheels! (although i dunno why we need them, we have grass, and a gravel driveway. no sidewalks in the country! :lol:

and the damn garbage man just throws it back in the yard after he empties it. bastard! :twisted:

some people have no pride in their work these days! :lol:
