So I am checking some more...It looks more cost effective to fly into Newark and get a hotel there and travel into the city. On digital paper it is cheaper, almost half, but is that feasible to fly into Newark and travel to the city and then travel back to Newark that same night from midtown Manhattan (right?) without too much hassle? I've never been to NYC.

Again just seeing what my options are. The next hurdle is the fact that this is a school week for my kids so my wife and I would have to arrange for that and an overnight for them. My dream would be to stay til the weekend but right now I am just checking on flying in on Oct 1 and flying out on Oct 2. Maybe I can convince Mrs. Brian that this is a 15th anniversary (May) 2nd honeymoon (actually a first honeymoon, we were too poor for a 1st one)?

it is feasible to travel from newark to NYC easily... assuming you are staying at one of the hotels right near the airport (so you can use the airport-to-manhattan transportation). however you might be restricted on time for the late night travel back.

i just did a quick google search "newark to manhattan" and found this page:

the airtrain is the best way, and will get you directly into penn station. from penn station you just get off the airtrain and follow signs for the NY Metro subway. if you don't like taking the subway, you can go "above ground" and hail a cab. the only problem is, i don't know when the last airtrain goes back to newark, and you'd have to factor in the time to get back to penn station then to the train... and you may not make it... and you'd have to take a cab back to newark (which is a bit more expensive - probably around $50)

i remember last time the bunnymen played in NYC (in 2006) Will did a DJ afterparty, and the bars in NYC don't close until 4am, so it was a VERY late night.

There are hotels in Fort Lee and Edgewater NJ which are close to the George Wash. Bridge for getting into the city or Hoboken, Weehawken or Jersey City hotels which are close to the Path trains, Lincoln Tunnel or ferry for getting into the city. There's a Sheraton suites on 500 Harbor Blvd. in Weehawken NJ that's right on the riverfront with nice views of the NYC skyline.
The good thing about staying in Newark is that when you have to go home the next day or whenever, you'll be close to the airport. The bad thing is, it's not really a quick drive from NYC.
If I were you I'd try to get somewhere in Manhattan though, so I didn't have to deal with traffic driving in, unless you take the trains.
If you decide to stay in NJ you can always go over to the city earlier and hang out just to make sure you won't be late for the show.

Brian, one time Staci came to NYC and stayed at this hotel. I think it was reasonable and pretty close to get to Radio City Music Hall which is on W. 51st and 6th Avenue.

I wish I had a big place, I could open the moondance hotel! I'm in Queens anyway and have to take the train in and then a subway or walk uptown.

just saw Wicked in Chicago on Saturday at the Oriental Theatre. what an AMAZING theatre!!!! (what a nice city too!) our seats were in the 2nd balcony and they were still pretty good. i'm sure anyone in the 1st mezzanine will be happy with their seats.

anyone else sitting near us? i see some of you are near each other in the mezz.

this is tricky, Brian. make sure your flight is early in the day. it can take 45 mins just to go 3/4 of a mile from the turnpike exit to the tunnel, not counting the half hour drive from the airport to the exit. (doesn't matter if you drive a car, taxi, bus...all get stuck in traffic!) there are shuttles, but depending where you're staying, sometimes they go back too early to catch a gig, so you could end up taking the taxi back across the river and that can cost ya $50 if you're staying close to the airport. there's also the train shuttle thinger, but i haven't done that on the newark side, only the JFK side, so i don't know the timetables. i usually drive into the city and park just across the lincoln tunnel and then take the subway wherever i wanna go. (or walk)

i also don't stay right in midtown if i have to stay over......it usually costs more there. (sometimes you can get lucky) and yes, if you are talking about flying right back the next day...that's cRaZy!! (if going that far) i said in another thread somewhere that in order to get the cheapy fares you have to stay over a Saturday night....so over night will cost you a pretty penny.

I was trying for a floor seat, and thought I had, then as I was printing out the order, I discovered it was a mezz seat, which would've been fine, but being a flatlander, I like the floor best. So back into the fray. That'll teach me to look before leaping, eh?

Figure I'll just sell the mezz seat for face value on night of show. Is that legal in NYC?

Glad you had a good time in Chicago. I love that city! Any chance you dined at Mr. Beef?
