Half-asleep cabaret vibe? Ahem ...
went to see em in Oxford last night - and you'd have to say there was a high level of cabaret vibe about it, v professionally done but cabaraet all the same, lots of audience participation and over-the-head hand clapping. 90 minutes of mcclcsky's famous dad dancing and bouncing all over the stage. Plus great stage set & lights and all that stuff - and all really good too (just in case you thought that might have been a criticism. Did some new stuff though if he hadn't have told us I wouldn't have noticed. Both McClusky and the other bloke (harrison??) looked to be having a great time. I said something about the audience not being like what you get at the average bunnymen gig and Mrs FC pointed out that there were loads of women and a few blokes as opposed to loads of blokes and a few women. In fact, if you were out on the pull looking for middle aged women you could do worse than attend an OMD gig.
Mrs FC booked it and didn't see anything about a support band. Was a three piece, synths, violins and those pretend drums - all seeemed a bit static and rooted in kraftwerk (not that I'm an expert in electronic music), and at the same time I'm thinking that the bloke in the middle, singing looked a bit familiar and a bit old to be the support band - or i an up=and-coming support band. Anyway then he did 'burning car' and it clicked it was john foxx. doh. Handful of stuff I wouldn't mind hearing again though.
