When will "The Fountain" see the light of day?

Postby Frank The Bunny » Thu Sep 25, 2008 9:36 am

This is purely hypothetical, but I'm curious -

What if Warner footed the bill for "The Fountain" recording sessions?

In theory, if a label fronted the money for the sessions then pulled the plug on the act, wouldn't the label own the recordings? And if the act owed the label a lot of money from their previous stint with the label, wouldn't that make the whole situation even stickier - essentially legally enabling the label to hold the recordings ransom until the past debt was cleared?

Discuss.

No idea. Surely if a label drops a band before the album has been released, any claims on the recordings financially would be null and void? It's not like Warners released it, it then flopped and the band were dropped as a consequence. What I wonder though is the likelihood it will be released as being advertised. I notice it is still being pushed by Mac as a late January 2009 release in interviews.

There are various options open to The Bunnymen the two most likely is that Warners allow the band the keep the recordings on the promise that if successful they repay them the Recording Costs..........

But in my opinion Warners decided to cut their losses when the actual A&R guy that signed them departed from Korova.... They did not fancy the option of investing more money in a band they had little faith in recouping it from, so they gave them the tapes and told them to go away...... A nice clean break.......

As for previous debt they may have had with Warners am sure their Legal Representitve would have insured they were wtitten off before they resigned to them........

Maybe The Fountain is just a figment of Mac's imagination.
And you know that I'll pick up

Maybe they'll redo the vocals given his renewed voice.

yes - his voice indeed sounds perfect....i just hope they release the damn thing. not that we NEED new Bunnymen songs - just that we WANT some.....right?
i could go on with all the albums and dvds i have - -but would love to hear new stuff. they should do what Radiohead did......exposure was enormous for them - -!!

Unfortunately "Think I Need It Too" is real.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Think I Need It Too really shouldn't be the first single, assuming they get to release any singles when (or how CD? digital?, etc) The Fountain gets released -- there is the much better Forgotten Fields and this supposedly great song called Idolness of Gods. Has anyone managed to hear that yet anywhere?

i really like that song
A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.

I posted this question a while back on the other forum when think i need it too was floating about out there which ended up on my ipod. The cd is complete, the dude from clyde one radio has it and played tracks from it WHY CAN'T THEY PUT ANY OF THESE ON THEIR MYSPACE SITE??? And has anyone noticed how you can't add any songs from there to your profile and they have not changed forever, the playing safe mode just like the concert set list.

So you're new to the band (and their ways). Don't fight the apathy. Many have tried and no one's succeeded. To quote the great ones: It is what it is.

I have to agree that it is a bit weird that the band haven't started providing a taster of a few tracks via My Space, especially when considering the really obscure places that tracks have already been played. I mean how many people go onto the Internet to stream some obscure Scottish regional radio show on a Sunday night?

MySpace seems to be the place where bands go to be heard now.
I think most artists these days seem to put more effort into their MiySpace presence than they do their official websites. It's easier to 'accidentally' happen upon a band there.

I like the trend that artists like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have pioneeered - where they tell the labels to fuck off, make the album available for free download, and later offer physical "deluxe" editions of the album for fans
