will called him mr meticulous. or something. sampling the drums etc, which apart from being a good way to piss off any drummer, never mind one thats just been awol for a few months and still probably not in the best frame of mind, tends to suggest thats all programmed. doesn'yt it? still like the picture on the front though.

The one tune that sounds live and I would like to think Pete played on is Bedbugs. But he isn't listed on songwriting credits.

I hope he did cause I think they played it at his funeral to showcase his drumming.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

well, whichever way you look at it it'd be a bit of a bummer if they played someone elses record to show off your talents at your funeral. Plus I expect Dorian Cope Would have a word or two to say abuot it.. as my husband JULIAN COPE, said in his AUTOBIOGRAPHY it was shocking how they used the drummer from Huey Lewis and News's version of bedbugs & ballyhoo as the coffin was carted in. I'm saddened but not suprised that nobody has mentioned it on the BOF, which incidentally doesn't even have a 'we're sadder than you about the loss of a great chum' section. On the bright side the last time he came round he left half a ton of burmese gold in the pantry and we never had the chance to pay for it. good old pete, always thinking of others'

Actually, Bedbugs is one of the three songs on the Grey album Pete does get song writing credit for:

All tracks written by Will Sergeant, Ian McCulloch and Les Pattinson except where noted.

1. "The Game" – 3:50
2. "Over You" – 4:01
3. "Bedbugs and Ballyhoo" (Sergeant, McCulloch, Pattinson, Pete de Freitas) – 3:28
4. "All in Your Mind" (Sergeant, McCulloch, Pattinson, de Freitas) – 4:32
5. "Bombers Bay" – 4:22
6. "Lips Like Sugar" – 4:52
7. "Lost and Found" – 3:37
8. "New Direction" – 4:45
9. "Blue Blue Ocean" – 5:08
10. "Satellite" (Sergeant, McCulloch, Pattinson, de Freitas) – 3:04
11. "All My Life" – 4:07

I didn't know Stephen Morris played with the band:
Stephen Morris - drums ("Soul Kitchen")

I wonder if the Grey album could have been better had they let Gil Norton's production be the final album.

Yeah, Bedbugs and Satellite were both written way before they went into the studio to record the Grey album. Maybe that's the case with All In Your Mind as well. It's weird that Bedbugs was originally a B-side on Bring on the Dancing Horses and yet it's one of the best songs on the Grey album, maybe that says it all.

All in Your Mind/Satellite both played at Glastonbury 1985.

The demo version of Satellite rocks. It almost sounds like a HUH outtake. The overly slick production and Mac's phrasing/lyrics kinda killed it on the album version.

I agree! Some awesome guitar work on it. Completely watered down on the album. I wonder if there is a set of rougher outtakes from their recording session of the Grey album.

Pete rocks!!!!

The best drummers do not get the credit they deserve. Pete was a very arty and musically sensitive drummer. I can't think of too many rock drummers who would go along with brushes for most of an album, as Pete did for Ocean Rain, either.

Sampling extra drums and cymbals was the in thing to do in the 80s. Rockwell Sheraton had a one-off hit with "Somebody's Watching Me" but the meat of his career came from working with bands on additional drum tracks.

One of my current favorite drummers couldn't believe that people weren't playing everything on their records and he was determined to actually do it all himself in real time.

The cymbals were supposed to add something to the sound except that, in this case, it made it not sound like the Bunnymen.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

Rockwell? Really Diva?

I think Jack just fell in love.
