Would it have been better if Mac had died after Ocean Rain?

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

Yes, definately. We wouldnt have had to endure Flowers.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Jack might disagree but I say we swap Jake Brockman to get Pete back.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Yes! Bring me the one they call "Brockman" so that he may be sacrificed!

We never knew what he was going to do with his life.

but going back to the original question scouse..... its alright saying would it be better if he had snuffed it but there are a range of methods that ought to be considered. The chosen one possibly having some bearing on the future fame of the dead person. Obviously not every method would be suitable for everyone. So what would be your choice? Dreadful disease like eva cassidy, suicide (with a gun like cobain or with the washing line like curtis, or just 'missing in action' like that manics bloke, or even dangling on the back of a door, accidentally of course, during pervy sessions of a personal nature) drug overdose with a couple of prozzies in tow like entwhistle, or that american whose mates nicked his body and burnt it in the desert, motor vehicle accident like, well, Pete, or the old favourite, choking on his own vomit (too many to mention). And what do you think the pros and cons of each are? I think the death by awful disease possibly fits mac best - the tragedy of the life cut short by nothing other than the grim reaper and possibly genetics, promises unfulfilled but a stoic stand right up to the end, his mates collecting outside morrisons to send him to disneyland etc, a brave but eventually futile fight against the inevitable whilst holding a mirror to a very brief life with words of unfathomable wisdom and depth (c-c-cucumber). The choking on his own vomit after a mega sesh is probably more likely. But what do YOU think? eh? go on. You know you want to.

The general giste is that nothing after OR has any kind of merit which I disagree totally. The only release I havnt found any longevity in after that is Flowers, which is chronically produced, recorded and has the worst sleeve ever.

back on the old site didn't you used to say that OR was the beginning of the end and that there wasn't any real merit in anything after porcupine? Or was that someone else?

There are some great songs on Evergreen, and some of the reunion gigs such as the Brighton Concorde II were fantastic, so in short, Mac was not ready for the knackers yard post Ocean Rain. Post Evergreen, well WAYGTDWYL might have seemed like the beginning of the end, but SuperMellowMan and In The Margins still justifies his existence. Besides, he's earned the right to grow old disgracefully. I guess he'll end up still thinking he's glamorous, like the late Barbara Cartland.

THis thread was/is a new low.

Maybe a little jealousy talking from you old geezers. As long as he's still getting 20something girlyfriends, he's still glamourous. Nix the smoking and drink, and he's got another 10-15 good years left.
