Don't get me wrong, I would love to see them sell out a 10k seater. That would be stellar....but....I think you'd have to draw from other parts of the world and if that statement from Mac about taking the Ocean Rain show to other cities is going to happen then they won't sell it out. I mean why would someone in Paris or LA fly to Liverpool to sit in a sea of 10,000 when it will come to their doorstep? If you want the atmosphere and to visit Liverpool and to relive history then you'd go to the RAH gig not an arena.

And it will be only those that live around the Liverpool/northern region or those that have money to burn that will also go to the Echo Arena. I already have a ticket for RAH, and the only way personally that I'd go again, if it was something unusual. I don't know, I wouldn't mind taking a trip over to the States say in 2009 and seeing it again. That would be different rather than sticking to UK venues. Hmmm...

I've been thinking a bit about a full orchestra tour, and what it might take - and I think it's pretty realistic: have them play with local orchestras.

The hardest part is arranging the music for the first go at it - it'll take the band rehearshing with the orchestra, making sure everything fits, works right.

Then, it'd be a pretty simple proposition to forward the sheet music as arranged to orchestras in the cities the band wants to play. Remember - these people are professionals - it's not asking a lot to get them to play a 45 minute piece directly from sheet music.

Bonus: most major cities have a dedicated symphony hall with gorgeous acoustics. Plus, they have season subscribers that probably wouldn't mind seeing their orchestra backing a rock band.. even if it's "Echo and the.. who?". It'll help fill seats.

It would be a big blow for them to have a load of empty seats at a truimphant homecoming gig, its not just any other concert to them. This is the biggie. 30th Anniversary in their hometown. A vindication of their decision not to flee their hometown like The Beatles did.

Wouldnt be much of a vindication half empty.

Exactly, so why take the risk? I'm astounded they're playing there on their own frankly.

Well the cathedral is impractical but the other two choices agreed.I think agents/promoters have bouyed up the idea after the band 'sold out' the RAH.But is it sold out to fans or sold out to touts on the make?I'll think they'll shift about 6K at the Arena but the lack of bunny style romanticism in the Arena choice is slightly disappointing.Arena tours split the band and fans in the late 80's.Just reminds me of watching The Primitives supporting with an ice cream seller stood next to me.But having seen how well they played and went down at the Cancer MEN gig last year the chance of hearing the songs belted out on a mega PA should be good.

Plus we are all being abit unfair about the Liverpool Echo Arena. It may be a big shed but its right on the waters edge with some amazing views...especially when the sun sets over the Mersey...

I hadn't even heard that he passed. He couldn't have been that old.

He died of cancer just before Christmas 2006, he was in his mid 60's. He was a genuinely lovely bloke.
