The mandolin is a type of lute.

I forgot to mention JL De Meyer (of Front 242) is one of my favorite lyricist and I think the best industrial has to offer.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Listening to Porcupine. The beginning of My White Devil is pretty cringeworthy.

One of the best there was
He was the author of
Two major tragedies
The White Devil and
The Duchess of Malfi..."

True. Especially since he'd never read the books.

I think I'll play devil's advocate - is there such a thing as an angel's advocate?

I actually think it's one of the better openings, stunning in it's simplicity of 1 and 2 syllable words.

It's grand and sum's Mac up and of course there are Shakespeare links again.

It's just when he gets his dates all messed up like in Everything Does this that and the other.

How about Mac as the next Doctor Who.

There's been too many Scottish Doctor Whos.

I love that opening!

You people crack me up. They are rock lyrics. Every good songwriter has good ones and bad ones and they all take liberties with pronunciations and facts to fit with the cadence and whatnot. Whether it's "Tutti frutti oh Rudi" or "cccc-cucumber", a rock musician's voice is sometimes just an instrument of sound and not so much of substance all the time

I'm down for that opening. Love that song! Didn't Julain Cope make a derogatory comment about it at some point?

What the f*ck does Cope know about what Mac has or has not read. Also, he does not say "Malfio".

He does. Says so himself somewhere in Turquoise Days when he mentions Cope's comment.

I'll have to take your word for it, since I don't have Crystal Days handy at the moment. (Although I don't recall that particular factoid.)

Here is how I hear the lyrics:

The White Devil and
The Dutches of Malfi are
The White Devil and
The Dutches of Malfi are
changing the nether

Of course now that I listen right now, I am hearing "Malfion."

Here's my question: how does he get the title wrong? Misremembering it? How do you misremember titles of Webster novels that you have never read?
