The Obligatory Contented of Hove Thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Nick Cave at the Sony Centre

Either way he sounded thrilling, as did the Seeds as they alternated between thunderous live staples like The Mercy Seat and From Her To Eternity, slow-burning cuts from Push The Sky Away and piano ballads, including God Is In The House, a satire about suburban paranoia that he hilariously tailored to Toronto: “We have a pretty little square / We have a crackhead for a mayor.”

went to the film the other night down at somerset house - great venue to see a film (if the weather's OK that is, which it was). Was all jolly good. Had a bit of a speech from the promoter at somerset house, and then the two peeps wot did the film - they were a bit gushing, but then it was their film getting premiered), and a short 'apologoies for not being there' film from Nick himself, and then the main event. What can I say, its a film about nick cave, mainly from the man himselfchatting about himself and his music, the past gets a brief viewing through nick looking at photographs - funnier than it sounds I assure you - but throughout in various scenarios, some of which work better than others - the bit at the start with some bloke who may or may not be a therapist was a bit stagey, but in the car chatting with various folks - ray winstone, blixa and at the end, national treasure that she is, kylie are all good. The bit with blixa talking about why he left is quite touching (awww). But the bits rehearsing or chatting to warren wossname are probably the most relaxed and funny, especially attempting to explain the flow of the words to 'push the sky away' to a bunch of french school kids. There's a bit of live footage at the end which is really good, but really short - I'd probably go toa full concert film. Not out til september in the UK I think. One for the fans I'd say, but most films about music or musicians are aren't they. Don't expect VB to convert. Though he should really!

and, not that its that relevant but the french school kids are pre teens, which is what kind of makes it funny, being instructed by this beardy australian bloke - in french. you wonder if any of the teachers have heard stagger lee.

Purveyor of the 'semi-predictable one-liner (which) embodies the essence of the type of comedic crap we grew to love here. VB is a crazy fool'
